PTHVolume is an utility for Mac OS X 10.5 and later that is used to control the volume of your Mac OS X machine. For most people the included Mac OS X widget is sufficient for controlling volume. There are however two situations in which PTHVolume 2 is a much more useful alternative.
Multiple Output Device Control. The Mac OS X 10.5 volume widget works for changing the volume if you only have a single audio device connected to your computer. But what happens when you have multiple audio devices? This is where PTHVolume 2 excels, you can individually control the volume of multiple devices without opening up System Preferences.
Volume Control with Non Apple Keyboards. Your type of keyboard is a very personal choice, if you like the keyboards Apple provides then you can just use the standard volume keys. But what happens if you like the IBM Model M style of keyboards, without custom volume keys. Well PTHVolume 2 comes to your rescue, you can set keyboard shortcuts for any and all volume devices.
TINGTING This is very cool but please remove or make optional the sound feedback when changing volume. I can't use it. It is jarring especially when using headphones. If anyone knows a way around this please reply. (Version 2.2)
LARSEN2K4 I love this app - but I get one annoying problem: Once PTHVolume is running, my Dock becomes sluggish (the animation etc.) ... I hope that this can be fixed :( (Version 2.2)
EASER I suppose it's inevitable that there will be "10.5 only" apps, but it's too bad the pre-Leopard version of this program did not have these same nice features. (Version 2.1)

PETER DA SILVA It's not THAT hard to implement version-specific features so they're no-ops on earlier versions. That way you retain a single code base that works on multiple releases. (Version 2.1)

DAN NEAL Basically, I was unable to extract the prefpane using either the built-in compression engine or Stuffit Expander.
I guess we'll have to wait for a corrected upload to rate it. (Version 2.0)
It seems somewhat less full-featured than Sound source from Rogue Amoeba, but I'll try them both for a couple of days and see how they compare. (Version 2.0)

SJK Still running Tiger so I can't try PV2 yet, but a big advantage over SS (which I'm using) seems to be letting you change the volume of different audio devices instead of just selecting them. I've never found a convenient way to independently change volumes of internal/external audio output devices on Tiger. (Version 2.1)
