Instantbird is a multi-protocol Instant Messaging client. Using it, you can connect to all your different IM accounts. It uses the Mozilla rendering engine to display IMs, and the Pidgin libpurple to connect to the different networks.
Improved stability: we fixed the outstanding bugs that resulted in crashed.
Proper handling of non-ASCII characters. Instantbird now uses UTF-8 for all strings.
Usability improvements. We fixed bugs that didn't require much of our time and will significantly improve the user experience. For examples: aliases in the buddy list, linkification in the chat window, ... We also removed some common annoyances in the UI.
IRC Chats. In order to build a community, we thought it was critical to provide some way for users and testers to talk in a public place and not only send us private messages. The is now in the "File" menu a "Join Chat" item which will allow users and future contributors to join us in irc.mozilla.org#instantbird
TCAMPBELLUT Adium has no IRC support that I have found. This does. It's also a standard interface across multiple platforms.
Regarding people that claim that PPCs are dead (or dying), you obviously don't have a PPC. Don't make quick statements when they obviously don't involve you. I personally have two PPC based Macs and two Intel based Macs. I have no intentions of "trashing" my PPC Macs.
I was curious though if Instantbird will be supporting OTR Encryption at any point. If not, I won't be using it. (Version 0.1.1)
GUILLAUMEK Instantbird will have a hard time gathering users. There are already many free IM clients built around libpurple (hence with the same core features). Every major system has its native libpurple+GUI implementation.
Plus, as an implementation of libpurple, Adium is now nearing perfection. (Version 0.1.1)
GLOBETROTTERDK In general, Apple builds quality hardware that does not have to be thrown out every second year. Why shouldn't PPC continue to be supported as long as the hardware is rock solid? Mozilla's other products support PPC. (Version 0.1.1)

GLOBETROTTERDK Where is the PPC version #%!? (Version 0.1.1)
"...There is currently no PPC version because we have no usable PPC hardware to build and test it (the only PPC machine I have is an old PowerBook G3 which is way too old to build or run Instantbird).
If someone wants to offer us a nice PPC machine, we may provide PPC builds." (Version 0.1.1)

TUISHIMI Not to be a jerk, but what is the advantage of that to me (mac user)? Is file sharing better? Compatibility in general better? (Version 0.1.1)

SPLUNK23 Sometimes it's not all about you. The developers decided to write a cross-platform IM client. It runs on Mac, so MacUpdate listed it. (Version 0.1.1)

TUISHIMI Of course, and you realize I didn't mean "just me" I meant to users in general. And I was honestly interested in knowing if there were advantages because it is 100% possible that the implementation IS better than the backend used by Adium. I wanted to know if this was the case, and whether or not it triumphed over the mac-specific UI offered by Adium. (Version 0.1.1)
