DESCRIPTION
Chac is a complete accurate Maya calendar for the Macintosh.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.0.9:
  • I changed the name of the file-> save as image... menu to the standard save as ... I made the accessory file type panel a pop up menu. I added .insc (inscription) file type and several more graphics formats so you can save an inscription as insc, TIFF, PDF, JPG, JP2, PNG or BMP.
  • I added window titles. After a file is saved the framework will display the file name as the title. I didn't like "untitled" for new windows so I made it the Long Count of the inscription. The file system complains when you save files with periods in their names so I separated the units of the Long Count with spaces.
  • I fixed window cascading. In older versions new inscriptions were superimposed over older ones.
  • I enabled cutting to the clipboard using all three standard pasteboard types: PDF, TIFF, and PICT.
  • I changed the preferences panel so that hitting the default values button changes the front inscription to the default values as well as the panel. If there's no inscription open it will open one with today's date and the default values.
  • I changed my loadDataRepresentation: method to support reverting to saved if the inscription is saved to a file. I added code to activate or deactivate the Revert to Saved menu item. The framework does this badly and this will have to improve in a future release.
  • I re-wrote help file. I need to break this up into several files in a future release.
  • Remember: No program is ever finished.

TLALOC  The farthest right menu in a Mac OS X application is the Help menu. The second item is entitled "Chac Help". This item will load an HTML document that has a lot of valuable information about Chac and the Maya calendar. When all else fails, read the instructions.

FYREFLYE  For a sane discussion of the alleged "Mayan Prophecies" (but not of this app) see: http://www.skepdic.com/maya.html

AZTHAROTH  I just got this app mailed.... ad I was watching some others calendars... I'm pretty confused, because mr. Ian Lungold rom www.mayanmajix.com uses Calleman's Book for his speeches, and this one ends in 28. October 2011, not 2012....

And 2nd, I was using the apple maya calender widget.

http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/information/mayacalendar.html

And a second calendar from the learning lab of mayanmajix:

http://www.xzone.com.au/tzolkin/getcalendar.php

And those both were showing me the same date today, Example, in both was 3 Etz'nab today.

And this Chac Calendar is the onlyone showing 9 Eb being the Day today....

I still haven't find which is right, but till now, is 2 softwares(apple widget and xzone) against 1 (chac)

If you find out anything about which one is right, please let me know by commenting back :)

TLALOC  The farthest right menu in a Mac OS X application is a Help menu. The second item is entitled "Chac Help". All of this is explained in this help document. More discussion of the writings of Jose Arguelles, Ian Lungold, Carl Callemans, Terrence McKena, etc. can be found in the talk page of the Wikipedia article about the Mesoamerican Long count Calendar here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Mesoamerican_Long_Count_calendar

Reading this will explain why their theories are never allowed in the wiki pages about the Maya calendar. The bottom line is that they are new age spiritualists who have made up bizarre incorrect theories about the calendar and their writings are dis information.

Chac agrees with the Dashboard widgit but has lot more information.

TLALOC  Chac, http://www.xzone.com.au/tzolkin/getcalendar.php and the dashboard widget all agree so I don't know what you're talking about. the online calculator is an astrology page and it only can calculate today's Tzolk'in so it's fairly worthless. The widget can only calculate today's Long Count and calendar round so it's quite limited in what it can do as well.

TIM27  i believe the Maya calendar ends in 2012 with the end of the world. I just saw something on the History Channel about it.

TLALOC  No, the Maya calendar doesn't end in 2012. This is explained in the help book for this application. You can read it by going to the help menu and selecting the second item: Chac Help.

There are actually two of those shows about the "Mayan Doomsday Prophesy" on the History Channel. They probably have set a dubious record by condensing more disinformation into one show than any other TV show in the history of television.

These shows are entertainment, amusing fiction but not science.

JOHN SAWYER CJS  Entertainment? Amusing fiction?? Not science???

Prove it! I want to see the end of the world. When it's done, I'll sit down and watch some more TV...

MUSUBANA  Not of much use unless you are an expert of Mayan or a medieval-minded modern-day Maya.

But five stars for the historical value and the great fun! :-)
