DESCRIPTION
shootShifter helps to redate and rename complete folders of images based on the EXIF data or Finder dates. With the preview timeline its quite easy to synchronize several folders that were taken with differing camera dates.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.0:
  • [fixed since b1] added support for another rare image-file special-case where the EXIF-date was not recognized
  • [fixed since b1] fixed a few minor ui-issues concerning images without or with empty EXIF-tag
  • [fixed since b1] fixed a bug that could prevent a multi-thumb drag-selection with the mouse
  • [updated since b1] a few drag-selection optimizations and performance improvements
  • [new] added a second date-change-mode making it possible to change individual images and image groups instead of only changing all images inside a folder at the same time
  • [new] added option to transfer EXIF-changes to already existing XMP-data. when using shootShifter on images with included XMP-data (or with .xmp-sidecar-files) this option can be enabled in the preferences. this is a bit more time consuming and therefore optional.
  • [new] renaming images now searches for potential .xmp-sidecar-files and renames them, too.
  • [update] there are special situations when renaming can result in naming-conflicts (e.g. when images without EXIF-dates are ignored or when files cannot be renamed due to missing permissions). these situations are handled better with helpful error-messages. renaming again with updated options now behaves correctly in these cases, too.
  • [workflow] several UI-tweaks concerning keyboard-navigation and drag-scrolling in the timeline-view
  • [workflow] more UI-optimizations in the preferences to increase consistency and to further reduce the first-sight-intimidation :-)
  • [fix] changing the finder-dates is now reliable on Snow Leopard, too
  • [fix] thumb- and preview-images were sometimes very blurry on Snow Leopard
  • [fix] fixed very rare cases where a temporary preview was not updated correctly with the more detailed generated one
  • [fix] using the thumb-date-picker and canceling it could result in the changes-UI being reset
  • [fix] removing a folder during its import was not always successfully prevented. this could result in a crash or in weird behaviour
  • [fix] in some situations it was not possible to confirm the rename/save-sheet with the return-key
  • [fix] fixed another small oversight in the english localisation (checkboxes behaving like radiobuttons in the prefs)
  • [fix] fixed a few memory-leaks
  • [fix] a few other minor fixes and tweaks

STONGEY  This app is great! I use it get the time/date right when I make panoramas. Just drag the finished panorama JPG next to the last source photo and presto.

I would like to see it able to handle individual photos, however. I'm now trying to match up a series of photos from one camera that (for some reason) wasn't recording EXIF and interleave them with pics from two other cameras. I essentially had to put each no-EXIF picture in its own folder so I could get them all lined up individually. Luckily Folder Splitter (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23175/folder-splitter) does just that.

Thanks to the dev for this one!

HANDYCAM  Does what it says.

Too bad it only does folders of images, I'd love to be able to drag a group of images (i.e. a subset of a folder) to the app for renaming/processing.

Further, I'd love to see the ability to sort images processed into subfolders by date or other criteria.

But these requests aside, a nice app and the price is right.

THANAR  shootShifter is an excellent tool! I had a few hundred pictures taken in a different time zone and shootShifter shifted the time for me in no time! Excellent utility!

If only it would re-date the movies' Finder information as well...

TICE  Hmm.., doesn't work with Leopard. It displays the folder name but not the JPGs inside. No thumbs, no option to edit though. : (

I wanted to erase all Exif-data (or at least set the date to some 2012 year or so..

MACZENTRISCH  At the moment shootShifter only uses the EXIF-creationdate ("date and time of original data generation") as the EXIF-datesource.

Images that only have an EXIF-modificationdate ("file date and time") are treated like images without EXIF-tag. And these are ignored with the default settings.

You can try the option "use finderdate as datesource" in the Preferences instead. But it will only change the finderdates and not the EXIF-modificationdate of these images.

The next beta should improve this ... i hope to have it ready soon.

SURFACEMARKING  I've exported a load of photos from 2002 to watch on the Wii Photo Channel and naturally everything has been dated the day of export and i'd like to re-date them to accordance of year. Can ShootShifter modify the image date? Thanks!

MACZENTRISCH  Try it, and tell me ... :-)

At the moment I just know of problems with certain images (with included XMP-data) using Leopard.

With these images the changes are not saved and you get an error message instead.

I hope to have a new beta ready next week, which should also significantly improve the workflow.
