DESCRIPTION

SketchBox is a Sticky Notes Manager that supports graphical and text notes that can be used as reminders. Notes can be arranged via drag'n'drop in the thumbnail view to create little storyboards or comics.

Each Sticky consists of three layers: The drawing canvas, a little text editor and an intuitive alarm timer that combines analog and digital elements. While editing text the drawing layer is still visible in the semitransparent background and vice-versa.

SketchBox is designed not to interrupt your workflow. You can close Stickies at any time and they will remember their position on screen and their content without bothering you with a save panel. Closed Stickies are always accessible via the thumbnail view. You can stick individual notes to the Desktop if you don't want them to clutter ExposŽ or make them appear always on top for important things.

The drawing canvas has extensive support for graphics tablets with pressure sensitivity and you can use the backside of your pen as an eraser. Save your creations as a PNG file with alpha channel or just copy them over to other applications.

SketchBox also works great as a reminder. You don't have to enter numbers, just wind up the clock with your mouse by dragging or using your scroll wheel.

PEDROTAQUELIM  Just one feature request and one troubleshoot:

- In the preferences give the option to hide the app automatically once it is on the background.

- The stickies flicker a lot when I draw or just select them

oh... I had my first SketchBox crash already... and I lost all the stickies I had created... well I was just experimenting it for fun, but... it is not a good sign. ;-) improve stability maybe...

I'm on a G4 450Mhz, OS X 10.4.11

thank you!

GCOGHILL  Stickies on steroids. Pretty handy little application. Love the stickies with writing/sketching with a graphics tablet, very cool.

EASER  And now I want to add that the developer has been great at responding to requests. Several of mine are implemented in this newest version, and it didn't take the developer long to do that.

Although this program is free (unbelievable, to me), I am making a donation for it. There is a link on the developer's page for doing that. I am not an official spokesperson for the developer, or getting any special deals, or anything else like that. I just think that since so many of us are benefitting from this fine program, the gesture would be nice. I for one would be willing to pay for this if it were shareware.

EASER  This is a really nice program. I got tired of "to-do list" programs since I merely was overwhelmed with a big list of text. Then I tried using Cocoa Stickies to remind me of upcoming things. But whereas Cocoa Stickies is a really, really great program (look into it), I still ended up with a bunch of notes all over my screen.

SketchBox keeps everything much more easily organized, and I really like the ability to set alarms to reminder notes and such.

I would love it if I could change the colors of the somewhat drab gray background against which the notes sit. But other than that, this is stellar.

SJD  Nice little program.

One UI tweak reuest:

Could you have an option to make the pnecil and eraser cursors be brush size or a crosshair? Reason being, I'm left handed and seeing a right-hand pencil screws up my perception and I'm drawing on a weird angle because of it.

Thanks for your good work.

OMZ2  Thanks for your review. Just one remark: You can easily set pale yellow or any other color as the default for new stickies in the preferences.

MUSUBANA  This program has some interesting features.

The box makes it easy to overlook all your notes, even those not stored on the desktop. It is also nice that you have the possibility to doodle on your sheets, and to bring a note to the front of your screen at a specific time (the alarm function).

On the other hand, the SketchBox notes are ugly (neon rather than pastel colours; small flags extending from the left side of the note, even when another app is active) and lack the simplicity of AppleÂ’s Stickies. In the physical world I prefer the pale yellow quadratic PostIt notes to those in heart-shaped ones in screaming orange etc. Thus I stick to Stickies.

PCESPEDES  This is a great little app. I first tried his Chalkboard app and saw potential for a good little app to help me take notes in school (i'm a medical student). I emailed him and he told me about this app and emailed me a link to try it. I'm very happy with it because it allows me to make simple drawings for Biochemistry and add text very easily. I only wish I could click anywhere and the cursor would be there. Otherwise, it's perfect for my needs.

XARIK  Agreed, a great little app! It's always a nice surprise to find a freeware app that's not only functional but well thought-out. While there are tons of other stickies apps out there, this one approaches the same task from a refreshing angle. A few features I'd like to see in the future would be categories and a "magnification" setting for viewing notes in the main window, if possible. Still, for a first release, this rocks! Really appreciate the idea of tablet support and alarms. Keep up the good work!
