THIRROUARD  Some users seems to report that the app was crashing... well, they were lucky!

On my system, it ran just fine... except it totally screwed up my installation! I should have stick to monolingual :(

Anyway, I asked him to remove the unused languages (all except russian, french, and of course english (we can't remove it anyway)), and clean the architectures. There were nothing to setup the last point, but anyway, it's either PPC you remove or Intel, right?!

Well, except this fool removed the wrong part of the code! I run it on a macbook air and it removed the Intel Code, leaving only the PPC code...

So, a chance Apple created Rosetta to make PPC code readable by Intel machines, but it's slow and take huge quantity of RAM...

Moreover, XsTrimmer also broke the hard drive structure...

To summerize: AVOID THIS SOFTWARE!

Go with Monolingual. It's pretty straight forward and works well. And YOU choose what code to remove (it remind you what plateform you are running - and doesn't make mistake: "Intel 64").

LOUKASH  From the application description:

"Version 1.0 only runs on PPC."

In other words:

PPC != Intel

MacBookPro = Intel

In other words: You seem to be using the wrong tool...

NMR  updated, version 1.0.x only runs on PPC. Shouldn't be able to run on macbookpro unless you are referring to powerbook.

8OO8  Well, I finally gave it a try the other day and it didn't hose my system, BUT!, it crashed several times. The scanning went just fine, however it crashed each time I used it during the trimming process.

Notified the developer about it. Haven't gotten a response, yet.

NMR  i didn't receive your email. could you resend it to support.telnet7@gmail.com. I can't seem to pinpoint this crashing when scanning or trimming, because i can't recreate it. Do you notice any crashing, during a certain app? How much ram do you have, what kinda system thank you.

EINGEBILDET  Alrighty, a couple of more things about this application:

1. Throw away all your prefs and other files related to the app before running the new version. It refused to show anything being scanned and locked up when I tried to stop the scan before I did this. Afterwards it scanned fine.

2. Add it to your master exclude list if you use Unsanity haxies or anything requiring Application Enhancer - this is how I resolved the problems I noted in my review of 1.0.1

3. Developer is quite responsive and reasonable - that speaks well of his efforts and intentions. Let him know your experiences :)

EINGEBILDET  Can't say I'm real impressed so far. I've tried to use this twice and each time it's locked up and crashed on me. This is during the initial scan phase on my Applications folder. I've created a few category folders for audio apps and graphics stuff, which any app like this should be able to navigate. It scans about a dozen application, then goes all beachball on me, crashing a few minutes later. Definitely not ready for prime time.

GAOSHAN  Same with me. It locked up partway through the scan process. This earned it a quick trip to the trash.

8OO8  Something like this can really hose one's system if wasn't put together perfectly. I'd really like to use XsTrimmer but I'm just not ballsy enough to jump in, since the developer has no apparent track record and there are no reviews by people who have actually used it. In other words, "you first!" Anybody?

FACTORYJOE  So is this another free version of an existing piece of commercial software? In this case, Xslimmer? Ironically, aren't you also then competing with the free and open source Monolingual?

NEOX  Are not choices always a good thing? I am a big fan of xSlimmer and this does look similar. However I do not like Monologue, as I have seen it mess things up too.

FACTORYJOE  Choice is good, certainly. I'm in favor of that -- and I'm in favor of folks using projects like this to learn programming and so on. I guess I came across a little curmudgeonly because I this doesn't necessarily add anything new to the existing offerings.

FENGSHUIFACTS  Hm..Nmr didn't say they had used this project to 'learn' how to develop a program don't know if that's what you meant.

I noticed XsTrimmer is different. XsTrimmer has a re-constructive backup, which is a terrific feature to offer. Probably what makes XsTrimmer unique is you can trim all your universal binaries without the 50mb limit.

ALJUK  @factoryjoe - I don't get it... what exactly is your point? It sounds like you'd rather pay for a commercial app than get the same functionality for free. And are you quite sure you understand the meaning of "irony"? lol

While you're at it, check the reviews for monolingual - they're horrendous.
