DESCRIPTION
Sharpshooter... Rename your screenshots with pinpoint accuracy. Sharpshooter is a small utility which aids the management of screenshots.
When you take a screenshot on Mac OS X with Command-Shift-3 (or with another variation) Sharpshooter will present a window where you can review the picture and choose what to do with it. You can either rename it from its default name to something more descriptive, move the screenshot to the Trash, or cancel the operation keeping the screenshot as it is.
Sharpshooter has the ability to work with screenshots that span multiple monitors. If you have more than one display connected to your Mac, some screenshots will produce a separate image file for each monitor. With Sharpshooter, you have the choice to rename the screenshots as a group (e.g. typing "All Displays" would rename the files to "All Displays.png" and "All Displays (2).png"), composite the separate files into one large image, or just decide what to do with each file in its own separate window. There is a global preference to control the default behavior, but if you wish to take a different action for a particular screenshot, there is an action button in the renaming window toolbar for this purpose.
Sharpshooter is a background agent application so you may want to add it as a login item to always have it running in the background. You can control Sharpshooter through the menu status item on the right side of the menubar.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.0.2:
- Fixed bug 67 which was preventing Sharpshooter from working with a custom screenshot name.
- If a custom screenshot location is set but the folder does not exist when Sharpshooter
launches, it will watch for screenshots on the Desktop.
Version 1.0.1:
- Fixed bug 60 recognizing the language names used in older OS versions (e.g. "English" instead of "en").
- Sharpshooter now sets the file's hide extension attribute based on the "Hide extension" checkbox in the renaming window (as opposed to just controlling whether the extension was shown in the window). Fixes bug 63 and should fix 56 as well.
Version 1.0:
- Released under new company Kerlmax LLC.
- New icon by Jordan Langille.
- New status menu icon.
- Added ability to save screenshot in different format.
- Added ability to save the screenshot to a different location.
- Added a print option to the renaming window. Just hit Cmd-P or use the toolbar Action menu.
- Now detects if the system language is not supported by Sharpshooter and notifies the user.
- Added a nifty first run window to explain to new users how to work with Sharpshooter.
- Adjusted the window positions for cascading.
- New preference to always enable the Rename button. This allows you to immediately type return if
you want to keep the default screenshot name. This achieves the same affect as clicking the Cancel button.
- Switched to using SparklePlus for updates. It has been customized for better support of
a hidden background app like Sharpshooter. Removed the option to change the update check
frequency and just do it daily.
- Switched the regular expression engine to RegexKitLite.
- Made some improvements when showing windows so they aren't as likely to be hidden behind
windows of other apps.
- Removed the verbose mode checkbox from the preferences UI.
- Better support for getting the current language when there is a country code appended to the language code (e.g. en-US, pt-BR).
- French translations by Dominique Larcher.
- Japanese translations by Yoshiya Tsuchisaka.
- German translations by Dominik Buser.
- Removed all localizations except for English, French, German, Japanese, and Swedish.
The others weren't very well done (meaning I used online translation sites).

JIMW After using the program for a while and reevaluating some of the fee features available, along with its stability the product and support has changed my mind in regard to my previous comments about its fee. First of all there is not definitive reason to pay for this program. The fee based features can mostly be worked around with feature setting utilities such as Onyx and saving a screenshot to the desktop is the default Apple setting. This program can hold its own quite well against its competitors in its free format. That said I slowly realized that its fee based features could significantly save me time and annoyance when trying to import screenshot images to various programs. That fact, along with being able to dump the screenshots into my downloads folder eliminating desktop clutter convinced me to 'bite the bullet' and get a license. Since I try to avoid PayPal at all costs, and this was the only listed method of payment, I emailed the developer both to avoid the use of PayPal and to test out product support. I was most impressed with the response and attitude of the developer. He did his best to accommodate me, inquired with serious interest in alternatives I use with other sites, and promptly followed up with my license when payment arrangements were concluded. I simply could not ask for better support. The program has a simple, clean and well laid out interface, It is easy to use and has never created any problems for me. Sometimes the quality of the product is the best marketing tool for a product. This is the case for Sharpshooter. One of my personal values is to take ownership for my actions. In this case my previous comments were premature and I have no problem in stating they were wrong about this product. Given the convenience of its fee based features, and the support offered for the product it is worth the shareware fee. As such I now highly recommend the product, both in its freeware and shareware configurations. (Version 1.0.2)

JIMW This is a great product as free or donationware. but not worth $15 ($12 for the next 3 days) for the average users,Thanks but no thanks for the few screenshots I do every month, I would rather spend the $15 on family entertainment than on this program. (Version 1.0.2)

STRIDER72 This just stopped working -- i don't know why. When I first had this it worked great -- a real knockout program. Now, it doesn't do anything. It runs -- it's there in the menu -- but when I do a screenshot Sharpshooter doesn't do anything. I would love this program if it worked as it used to.... (Running OS 10.5.3) (Version 0.6.1)

NEANISKOS This little app is fantastic! If it would have the possibility to specify the location where the screenshots are saved, it would be perfect. (Version 0.6.1)

ZANGIEF Certainly handy for those of us who use Apple's shortcut keys for screenshots. I don't use these as much since finding InstantShot, but this is a very nice app, keep up the good work! (Version 0.4.1)

CHRISTEFANO It's not too often that I replace my own code with another program (I was previously using a Folder Action to rename new screenshots), but Sharpshooter's preview window is just too much fun. 5/5 for everything but features, which I give a 3/5. I could really use format converting options and a Save To button for keeping the Desktop clean. (Version 0.3)

ENDE42 Nice. Very useful. Unobtrusive. Even more without the menu bar icon. It would be nice to be able to define a default-name _in the popup window_ to be taken as basename for all following pics. (Version 0.3)
