emitSMS (formerly known as SendSMS)... Write text messages in Dashboard, send through mobile phone using Bluetooth. Works with most Bluetooth enabled phones from Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, SonyEricsson and others.
Write the phone number in the top line, the message below and press send. The Bluetooth icon color will inform you when message has passed through your phone and onto the cellular system. Hovering the mouse pointer above the icon will display additional information.
You will be charged the same amount by your phone company for messages sent through the widget, as for regular messages typed and sent through your phone. One short message can contain up to 160 characters, but the widget will allow larger messages by using several short messages if needed, as supported by your phone. When using letters outside the west European alphabets each short message only has room for 70 characters.
emitSMS can use phones that Address Book does not support, but there are probably phones where Address Book works and this widget does not.
emitSMS can search your Address Book for people, allowing you to refer to friends by name instead of number. Note that only contacts in your computer's Address Book are searched. Messages can be stored in a text file, inside "Application Support:emitSMS widget" in your users Library folder. That would be "$HOME/Library/Application Support/emitSMS widget/" to the Unix inclined.
PETERT An insanely Great widget. The addition of the 'send' shortcut (^s) has 'completed' the product.
Thanks to Apple's less than optimal decision to remove the SMS facility from Address Book (Leopard) this is an absolutely vital addition to any Leopard install.
I have only two very minor criticism's:
1. With the addition of the 'send ' shortcut the [Send] button became a very small (but clean) icon that is a bit fiddly ti 'hit' if you prefer to send via a mouse click.
2. The widget is so easy and compelling to use it is a no-brainer to send off an sms from the computer rather than from the phone and to send out LOTs more SMS's. So easy in fact my partner and I have run out of our 'free' allotment of SMS's in just a few days and now have to pay for them. 8-(

G3CD Works great with my Sony Ericsson T68i after OS X 10.5 has crippled SMS functionality. Addressbook support works neat, setup could be somewhat easier, maybe though listung of already paired BT devices. I wish I could receive SMS, too, like Addressbook used to do. (Version 1.85)
DBAGDADI I wish I could use it! Unfortunately, this program doesn't work with my Treo 700p. I don't know if this is a problem with this app or an OS-wide issue. (Version 1.85)
MAURITZ NORDLUND OSX 10.5 has taken out one of my favorite features: Sending/receiving SMS via the Adressbook. This program almost fills the void by the stupid Apple move. (Version 1.84)
STOERK This is nice. Thanks a lot to the developer. Works as described and flawlessly with my Nokia 6300. I prefer it over the built in SMS support of Address Book because of its support of more-than-160-character SMSes and the ability to save outgoing messages. Plus the search feature works faster for me than searching for a name in Address Book. Overall a must-have if your phone is supported. (Version 1.71)
BRIAN50 Forget my previous comment, I just worked it out. Works flawlessly, super software at an unbeatable price - many thanks to the developer. (Version 1.65)
BRIAN50 Nice - recognised my Sony Ericsson k810i first time and send messages flawlessly. I can't get it to link with Address Book in 10.4.10, what am I doing wrong or am I just dumb? (Version 1.65)
