DESCRIPTION
Minimal Screensaver is the most minimal you'll ever come across: it just fades your screen to black. That's it. I needed a screensaver with this exact functionality and I found the "do nothing screensaver" on MU but the link doesn't work anymore. I figured it would be faster to just make a new one, and since some people seemed to be looking for the old "do nothing" just like me, I just put it up here.

DOUG ENGELBART  When I click "Download Now", then this appears: "Fatal error: Call to undefined function base_url() in /home/minimald/public_html/system/application/errors/error_404.php on line 9".

MARUKO DRINKING TEAM  Simple, but great. Letting your display sleep is not the same thing as activating a screensaver, because the latter can (if you choose) lock your Mac and make it immediately unusable to anybody who does not have a password.

Additionally, if you use Screen Sharing to access a Mac remotely, the built-in screen savers can eat up all your bandwidth when they kick in (especially if you are abroad accessing a Mac back home) and stall your remote connection. This can make it very hard and frustrating to perform even simple GUI tasks remotely.

So, yeah, if all you want is a black screen, then you don't really need this. but if you need a very simple, low-bandwidth screen saver, this is a great little thing.

JAHNOTH  Or, you could just set your Energy Saver pref panel to put your display to sleep instead of starting a screen saver. That results in a black screen as well.

JAMESKITTY  unless you use hot corners to activate your screensaver when away from the keyboard.

MATURIN  Also, invoking a screen saver can set the security mode. Nice to have it go black (no cpu usage). Some screen savers can make the machine work pretty hard.
