DESCRIPTION
Font Mate is a simple program to help you see how fonts look on your computer, and to help you find symbol characters. Font Mate shows you a list of all the fonts installed on your computer. Choose any font from the list and it will show you what all the characters in that font look like. Choose any one of those characters and you will see an enlarged version of it at the bottom of the page (with its ASCII code in decimal and hex, should you be interested). Click the button to copy that character to the clipboard if you want to use it in another application.

ALLBLUE  As the comments below point out, there are a number of different ways to manage and access fonts, but I think this simple piece of freeware has a place. I have an older machine (iMacG4 800) and find most font apps slow to the point of distraction, including Font Book, or the other one I use FontDoc, which takes several minutes to start up. If I am in Photoshop and want to select a font, this app does the job perfectly. It opens in an instant, has a tiny CPU and RAM footprint and lets me quickly go through my library to find the one I want. Yes that is a niche use, but it fills my niche perfectly! Thanks to the dev.

Slightly naff icon mind you!

IAN PIPER  Definitely a naff icon: I'm not a graphic designer I'm afraid :-)

Would you like to do a better one for me? I'll credit you in the About Box :-)

ALJUK  I didn't "slag off" anything. I'm sure your tool works well, but it doesn't do anything that isn't available from the tools that come with the system, which are neither inadequate, nor complicated.

ALJUK  OSX already has this built in. It's a standard feature. Why try to reinvent the wheel?

IAN PIPER  No. It doesn't. If you had read the description you would have seen that the reason I developed it was that the tools in Mac OS X are either inadequate or too complicated. Font Mate is intended to be easy and fulfil one function. Hey, you dno't have to use it if you can get everything you need from FontBook and Character Palette, but don't slag off a tool that was written to make life easier.
