MICG  Great utility! I love the features, ease of use, and speed of this utility! My second registration for a second Mac.

I've been using Socks since 1.2.3, and I can say it's been the most stable utility for Mac OS X I've ever used. It does everything I need + more. I recently had some issues with some corrupted files, I ran the Preferences utility and it locked up, unfortunately. After I restarted Socks it corrected the issue =]. Thank goodness! I've had other utilities that I've used in the past and I've trashed most of them. I had lost almost all faith in Mac OS X maintenance utilities, until one day I found Socks by googling accidentally. My maintenance routine and stability of it has never been the same! - It's more stable than it's ever been! To the Dev: Thank you and keep up the great job!

Also, thank you for supporting PPC Macs, even down to 10.3.9 (Which I still use and totally enjoy)!!

No, there still is no documentataion, but remember, google is your friend!

ISHAN  Socks is good for what it does, but compare it to TinkerTool System. There is a marked difference in every aspect, including the GUI, the capabilities of the utility, explanations of what every option does and so forth...and the price is about USD 5 more. Not to mention that it's also compatible with 10.6.

I know how hard it is to write software; I do it daily (it's one of my jobs). I am not criticizing the reviews or the developer. My point was, most software of this kind does not have lengthy glowing reviews from almost all reviewers, and that struck me as odd. I hope Socks gets better and better with time and the developer makes a lot of money from it. In its present form, there are better alternatives for Macintosh maintenance and troubleshooting than Socks. I hope that changes. Competition is good.

TTLCNTRLPRINT  IMHO this is a good Mac maintenance utility. However, the latest versions download link isn't working correctly, one has to email developer for software!!

about to register another Socks App. on another Mac.

I've never had any problems downloading MKD sofware. Honestly...

ISHAN  There is something very suspicious with this plethora of glowing, verbose reviews. Socks may be a great application, but statistically, this collection of comments all being overwhelmingly positive (except for one) is not probable. Just wondering...

MICG  How about your review of Socks(?)

Just because all the big shots aren't reviewing it, doesn't mean you

should be criticizing our reviews does it?

YINGSU  I have been using Macintosh now for about 6 months and would never switch banck to Windoes. And I am enthralled by all the available software that I did not imagine would have existed. I highly reccomend SOCKS 1.1.2 and the earlier SOX version, they are both, I feel, fantastic pieces of Software for the Mac. The easyness of use is of course there too. And, I must mention that the SOCKS misses a few features of the earlier version (SOX) but people - keep your eyes peeled, because the author is due to release an other version soon that will include all the features of both versions!!

MICG  Socks is the best Mac OS X utility I have ever, ever used.

The options will be very clear for anyone coming from Mac OS 10.3.9 Panther, using the "sudo periodic" command in Terminal and other Mac OS X hacks, via the command line.

There's so many options to use to make Mac OS X customizable too.

It's been fun, helpful for correcting problems, and the best of the best utilities I could ever recommend to users of Mac OS X who want to maintain, customize, trouble-shoot, and keep their Mac OS X volume running trouble-free and fast. I tinker, so it's a necessity. It's nice to stay out of the command line, and not to have to re-do things when I can just launch Socks and get the job done.

Highly recommended!

DAVIDUSMUSICUS  Socks has been very useful to me. I really like the scheduling abilities and that the whole program is very customizable. The developer has been very kind and responsive too. I'm looking forward to further versions of this great app!

PEAAT  I have used System Optimizer X since version 2.0, It has been excellent in keeping my system running well, on many occasions when my mac was playing up, I have run the program and all has been sweet again.

My response from the developer has been positive in comments I have addressed to him and very helpful feedback.

Socks so far it has given me the same overall complete maintenance service as System Optimizer X, with a far better and detailed user interface. This is a program I hope will see me into the soon to be made upgrade to Leopard.

IRCHAMANDY  I would caution anyone considering buying this software because when a problem arises with it, the developer stops responding to support requests. After I ran the new version of SOCKS, it wiped out my Mac's ability to use keychains properly. Requests to the developer on how to fix the problem created by SOCKS have been ignored. It still isn't working properly and I have no idea how to fix it.

JOACHIMR  I have been using the free Onyx so far but socks as convinced me to pay the reasonable shareware fee. Yes, it does the same things - but it also adds a couple of things I really thought was worth the $: a very clear interface, that gives you enough control when you want it (for example the Spotlight control is far better implemented), but also gives you enough "just do it for me" options for the normal use (for example the regular automatic maintenance options). I am sure a number of people will argue that you can get most of these features for free or one particular feature in a better implementation, but Socks really makes it easy for me to maintain my computer and keeps it running smoothly in a very Mac-like fashion. The programmer assures me that it will also support Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard).
