LARRYMCJ  Though I'm a registered customer of several similar apps (including AppZapper) I find AppCleaner to be the best...by far. In my tests it always found more (usually all) files associated with the application being deleted. AppZapper has to be the worst at this...it probably finds about 50% of the associated files. Another very nice feature of AppCleaner is by simply moving an application to the trash AppCleaner will find all that app's associated files and ask if you'd like to also delete them.

DRDUL  Despite having purchased a licence for AppZapper a few years ago, I now use AppCleaner exclusively. The big reason I switched is that AppCleaner will successively delete apps without the need to re-authenticate when used from a non-admin account. Authenticate once, and then you can delete as many apps as you want without typing your admin password over and over again (eventually, after about 5 minutes, you'll need to re-authenticate).

DETTO  This truly is a mini review.

Just downloaded this tool again to check its work.

Well, I'm a bit dissapointed.

First, the "AppCleaner Helper" only works if you are logged in as an admin. For a normal user account it doesn't work.

Second, .. well just take a look: http://img3.abload.de/img/bild10cku.png

Maybe it was a bad accident, but to be honest: I installed AppCleaner, temporarily removed one application to see AppCleaner working, and on the first application removal one gets such a result?

Getting tired of using my saved spotlight search for application removals I was seaching (again) for such a tool to ease the task a little bit.

AppZapper is not really better, + it's shareware.

FORMICA  Of all the various file deleting apps out there this is by far the best, and amazingly it's FREE! I can never understand how other developers can get away with charging for their file deleting programs when AppCleaner is so much better, catches more affiliated files, and is FREE! Kudos to the developer!

The only thing that could make it better is if the Applications, Widgets and Others sections each had a "Select All" checkbox so we wouldn't have to individually check each app, widget or other filetype to protect it. Whenever I have to reinstall my OS it takes about 5 minutes to check off all the apps, etc. that I want to protect with AppCleaner.

Nevertheless, this is an outstanding app from an outstanding developer.

LOPOZ  The app looks great and it's free, but it cleans files not associated with the app I'm trying to remove (as a test).

I tried zapping Extendmac Flow as a test using AppZapper and AppCleaner.

Result:

AppZapper found three files: the app itself :P, App Support folder and a plist.

AppCleaner found 6 files: the app itself, a plist and FOUR unrelated plist files which contained the word 'flow' in them.

Needless to say removing those plists would have caused me to lose the settings for the apps associated with the plists.

Not recommended. It seems AppZapper, even though 2 years old, is still on top of it's game..

DEATHCABFORSEAN  I Havn't had appcleaner for very long, but it has impressed me. I was close to buying appzapper at one point, partly cos i loved the zapp sound effect, but mostly for the lifetime update guarantee, and the fact it didn't seem too much to pay to be able to keep my mac clean and uncluttered (don't want our macs turning out like every pc on the planet), but appzapper hasn't been updated for 2 years, so it seems a pointless guarantee. appcleaner has a cool cube flip-around view when you choose the app to clean, no cool zapp soundeffect, but for a free app works perfect. I got rid of iGTD2 with it, and after cleaning it and spotlighting one file was still there, but i just put it through appcleaner a second time and every trace was removed, no worries, just have to be patient, but considering it's free, seems fine.

MAC5  I have found this little gem to be the best of the bunch. It works easily, and its fast.

I would recommend this little application to all Mac users who have a need to delete applications and associated files that they no longer need on their system.

JHT69  This product works as described. And the price is just right...FREE!!! I was on the brink of throwing down some dough on another app when I stumbled upon AppCleaner 1.2.2. So far, I haven't encountered any issues and the GUI is easy to navigate.
