DESCRIPTION

The AdSubtract filters are being ported to GlimmerBlocker. See the GlimmerBlocker Custom Filter page for more details.

Ad Subtract (was GoodVibration.css) allows you to harness Safari's built-in capacity to use Custom Style Sheets as an ad-blocking solution.

Ad Subtract will work with Safari (for Mac OS X and Windows) as well as other browsers. Most of the CSS here will work on any browser. Any browser-specific code will be optimized for the WebKit/KHTML Rendering Engine. Safari, Konqueror, OmniWeb, and Shiira are just some of the browsers that use WebKit/KHTML to render pages.

We moved the project to Google Code so more people could participate in this project and to make updates more readily available. Fixes and improvements are being made to the file all the time. So, if you make personal modifications that improve Ad Subtract, please head over to the website and submit them.

JOHNNY ROCKET  just an FYI,on the developers site there's a download for AdSubtractAutomatic.css that will automatically keep the css file up to date. pretty cool.

JOHNNY ROCKET  after using the auto updating one for a bit, found it doesn't do as good a job. Lots of flash ads got through.

DRDUL  As the dev has noted in comments below, in the description above and on the AdSubtract project page, the AdSubtract filters are being ported to GlimmerBlocker. It's not clear what this means for AdSubtract, but I am interpreting it to mean that it's the end of the road for the "freestanding" version of ASdSubtract.

If that's the case, it's unfortunate. AdSubtract has worked better than any other ad-blocker I've tried. I would like to be able to keep up with improvements to the AdSubtract filter, but I don't want to use GlimmerBlocker. I have tried to like GlimmerBlocker, I gave it a fair trial not once but a few times, but it just doesn't work for me. So now I'm gonna have to go looking for another effective ad-blocking solution that's compatible with 64-bit Safari.

COLIN  Adsubtract Automatic doesn't seem to work whatsoever. Running Safari 4.03 and OS X 10.6.1. But if I download the non automatic version from the developers site everything works fine. Except it blocks some aspects of Gmail.

SYR WULLAM  Is this project dead? It would be a pity, because this stylesheet solves most (!) of my ad issues. The reason I can't give it five stars is that it's not been updated since last December. Too bad. :-(

SYR WULLAM  Hmmm, I was to fast with my reply. It doesn't seem to work under Leopard, even though I've followed the instructions that comes with the .css style sheet.

SYR WULLAM  Ooops, I forgot about my last comment. Ad Subtract Automatic has for some months now been working on my MBP (Leo 10.5.6). Some hiccups here and there but otherwise I'm quite satisfied with the results. Thanks to the developers!

NEONBLUE2  Blocks most ads though still more work to do. Would get a 4 if only there so much white space where the ads used to be!

I'm gonna stick with Good Vibrations until this is fixed.

FYREFLYE  Yes, it does block the ads that SafariBlock and Saft don't get, and it kills Flash ads too. Safari's lack of a workable ad filtering system has been one of the main reasons I don't use it as my default browser. I'm still waiting for something comparable to Firedox's NoScript before I change over, but AdSubtract is a big step forward.
