MICHAEL VILAIN I've been using MenuMeters forever and switched to iStat menus for the last couple months. I've found a fundamental problem with iStat menus with the most current release of Little Snitch (2.0.1) in that the Little Snitch daemon will start hogging CPU seemingly at random. I ripped out iStat menus and the problem goes away. I think something in the network monitoring of iStat menus is affecting Little Snitch. Since I consider Little Snitch a "must have", I'm back to MenuMeters and my system hasn't had a problem since. (Version 1.3)

DR. GIRLFRIEND Another free treasure. One of the few apps to win a coveted spot in my menubar. Unlike some of the other system monitoring apps, iStat Menus has a lovely, logical interface that packs just the right amount of info without looking too cluttered. I love the way you can configure it to show exactly how much or little info you choose. iStat makes it easy to tell at a glance if my RAM is getting too hot -- which happened to me just last week, in fact. Turns out I had a couple of bad 2GB sticks. Thanks iStat! My donation is on the way :) Tested and working great so far in Snow Leopard. (Version 2.0)

GARY30 Excellent. Lots of info taking up very little space! Would like to see the Icon Only as an option as in previous versions, rather than Icon plus Text. Just a quibble, though. (Version 2.0)

ITISTODAY Running the Snow Leopard build, and while I'd love to love this app because of its beautiful UI, pretty graphs, and lists of the top 5 memory/CPU users (etc.), I can't because it has one cardinal sin: it hogs too much CPU. A stat viewer app should be super efficient since it runs in the background all the time. This one idles between 0.9-1.7% CPU usage when it shouldn't be doing anything (no displays are up). MenuMeters seems to be more efficient, so I'm going to stick with that for now. As the SL build is beta ATM, I won't give this a rating yet, otherwise I'd take off 2 stars for that. (Version 1.3)

TRONDAH I can't understand why you'd want to take off 2 stars for 1.7% cpu. Just running top in a terminal takes up over 4%! (Version 2.0)

MACNERD1984 Have to agree with Trondah - Under 2% is hardly bogging your system down and I'd think it'd be harsh to drop 2 stars for that.... Love this app - Well written, looks beautiful and it's free; what's not to like?! (Version 2.0)

ITISTODAY Please read my comment again, iStat isn't supposed to be doing *anything* in that situation. When it's not giving you any information, it should be idle at 0%. Top, yes, does take 4% by default, but when you run it it's *doing something*. Top also doesn't have to take 4%. This top command will run at 1.2%, and it's grabbing a whole lot of information: top -ocpu -R -F -s 2 -n30 They could improve performance by fetching only the information that's being displayed at the moment. DOUG ENGELBART iStat Menu is what Apple should have implemented a dozen years ago. Now I finally can diplay date/time in the alphanumerical form "YYYY-MMDD-HHmm". This was impossible in Apple's "date & time" which can only show the time in the MenuBar, but not the date (try it)! Shame, Apple! :—) iStat's network bandwidth display is essential and beautiful, too, you can even change the bandwidth layout by dragging the ^/v-symbol etc.pp. And iStat's disk eject menu is also better than Apple's... ROD76 Love this application & its iPhone companion! I would recommend this to anyone who wants a system monitor that's always in view and uses very little system resources. As an added bonus its menu items link to the system applications they relate to. iStat Menus looks absolutely amazing, any features that a competitor might have over it can not overcome its polish and quality. A couple of things that would make it better would be an option for a Blinking Time Separator (for the Clock) and an option for combined Fahrenheit & Celsius (for the Temp Section). That would be a great way to get used to Celsius if you're seeing it next to the units you learned in school and relate to. (Version 2.0)
