EJI  The first scrobbling app to successfully scrobble *all* the recently played tracks on my manually managed iPod Touch 2G to my Last.fm account. So now I'm using it in place of the official Last.fm client (too clunky) and AudioScrobbler (great features but too hit-and-miss).

The memory leaks and runaway processor usage that some other users mentioned back in February seem to be fixed. SP has been running since boot-up this morning and is currently consuming 0% of the CPU and just under 37MB of RAM. Not too bad.

For those still on the fence, SP offers some nice perqs. You can exclude tracks with a certain comment, ignore certain media, and there's seamless Growl integration. If it matched AudioScrobbler one-for-one in terms of features, it would be the Last.fm client of my dreams.

EJI  When I wrote AudioScrobbler, I meant iScrobbler. Sorry for the silly mistake.

STORMCHILD  Unfortunately, over time I found this "little" app eats up WAY too much memory and CPU. Whenever I have it open, iTunes locks up for 5 seconds everytime I change tracks. It's annoying, but I don't know whether ScrobblePod is to blame; I had the same problem with iScrobbler, so maybe something has changed in iTunes itself that causes it to run slowly when an external app is regularly polling it for information. All I know is, I can't leave this running.

I'm still using this one for scrobbling, but what I do now is just run it once every couple days or so, let it scrobble once, then quit it immediately. Good enough...I don't really care about the "now playing" thing anyway.

STORMCHILD  I like the way this one is shaping up. I finally got tired of iScrobbler causing iTunes to throw a 5 second beachball party everytime I changed tracks, so I decided to try ScrobblePod again.

Much happier with it this time. It's not causing large CPU spikes or locking up iTunes, and it successfully scrobbles tracks from my iPod with no setup required.

I notice it uses a lot of memory. Something this simple should not require 165 MB of real memory at any time (which is where it's currently sitting for me). I occasionally restart ScrobblePod, at which point its memory usage drops to about 75 MB. This is still much too high, IMO.

The exclusions are nice -- something I've wanted for awhile. I'd like to be able to enter multiple filter words (comma-separated in one input field would be fine), and I'm not clear on whether it will match the string anywhere inside the tag, or if it must be an exact match.

I like the small icon-buttons in the menu (easier to find the function you want than reading text menu options), but the sliding controls overtop of the song readout are somewhat impractical. The sliding animation is very slow, at least on my older PowerBook G4 (1.67 GHz Oct 2005). I would prefer to have all of the buttons in a row beneath the song readout, always visible.

All in all, a good scrobbler with the potential to be a great one. Needs a few UI tweaks, some serious memory use optimization, and a little more configurability for the filters, and it's good to go. In the meantime, this works pretty well as-is.

THREEDEE912  Works ok, but frequently locks up iTunes, and eats up CPU while scrobbling songs. Not sure why.

STORMCHILD  Well, it's not looking good so far...

When ScrobblePod is "scrobbling" (submitting played tracks to Last.fm), iTunes completely locks up, and its CPU usage shoots up to 100%. Scrobbling *one song* usually takes 30 seconds or longer; in the meantime, while iTunes continues to play, you cannot control it at all, and its display does not update; it's spinning beachball time until ScrobblePod is finished. This happes after every song and becomes frustrating very quickly.

Needs work. I don't recommend using it until the massive CPU spike and total iTunes lockup after EVERY song gets fixed.

STORMCHILD  Nice to see a new alternative to the official Last.fm bloatware, and iScrobbler. I hope this one works out, as I'm looking to get rid of iScrobbler (which has also turned into bloatware, and hasn't really worked properly since 1.1).
