MRHOOKS  I like the app, but it crashes a lot when I'm skipping from song to song. G5 1.8GHz, 10.4.11.

ANJ  I like the equalizer, which Cog doesn't seem to have. The interface is really nice. However, it won't scrobble on Last.fm for me. Maybe it'll work when I restart my computer?

As mentioned before, it would be even better if playlists could be created.

MWSCHMEER  Out of all the many iTunes alternatives out there, this one takes the cake. It's small footprint, extended feature set, and gorgeous HUD-styled interface makes Vox hard to beat. While it lacks a "saved playlist" feature, it's main draw is the ability to drop a folder of files on the icon and have them start playing them either in order of the file name or in shuffle mode. It's real boon is the ability to quickly play a downloaded mp3 file (although it can play most other sound formats supported by QuickTime).

It's been rock-solid on my machines--an Intel Core Duo iMac, and a G4 Gigabit Ethernet, both running 10.4.11.

This is definitely an application that is a must on my systems. I can't wait to see what the developer does in future builds.

BEAMY  This is great music player.

It is easy to use and has a nice simple interface. I use it now more often than iTunes.

I hope that a playlist feature will be implemented in a future version.

HALEAKALARI  as a cog user who prefers tiger over leopard (i have a leopard box, but still find myself on tiger 90% of the time), i had been toying around with songbird [for its m4a/aac metadata support, which cog lacks on tiger and integrated last.fm scrobbling], but i hate the "media library" concept. still, songbird is nice and all, but along with its obscenely high resource consumption, some extensions will irreparably "muck up" prefs.js and the xul overlay/chrome files.

besides, what i was really looking for was sort of a companion to cog, not a full blown media library, tag editor and web browser mash-up, just something that supports all/most of the file types cog does while filling in some of the gaps. vox fits this niche very nicely and [amongst a few other things] even ads in an equalizer, audio effects, transcoding, album artwork support and integrated last.fm scrobbling (cog requires one to utilize the official last.fm client). last but not least, it's just as "gentle" with my system as cog is.

of-course on my leopard box, i'll probably just be using the 10.5 only builds of cog, but for now, vox completes my audio player arsenal on tiger... the only thing i'm missing is a drag & drop playlist interface [and ideally, a directory browser to compliment that]. otherwise [aside from some very minor glitches] this is an outstanding up & coming player with great potential. i'm very interested to see where the developer will be taking this application further down the line.

SWISSROLL  I downloaded this app as VLC cut off the beginning of each .ogg file I tried to play. Vox does not cut off anything and does more to boot. Intrigued by the fun look, stability and lightness of Vox I am trying to find excuses to use it. So now often I keep audio files in a folder on my desktop instead of dumping everything in iTunes. But man, iTunes reminds me of the Mafia, I try to get out but it pulls me back in. Darn it.

I wish there was some kind of connection possible between Vox and iTunes library and playlists etc. That would be great.

Well done on making this fine application. I deserves a donation.

TEKL  Please don't make it such a big thing like iTunes. Don't include a library. The playlist support could be enhanced to show a list. It should be hideable like the new info button.

Some things I'm missing:

- SID file support (using the libsidplay2/reSID engine)

- Embedding the Equalizer settings into the file (using hfs extenden attributes or the spotlight comment?)

- Drag'n'Drop support from iTunes to Vox (Cog show, that's possible)

- Global hotkeys to skip songs
