DESCRIPTION

TVShows is a Mac OS X application that automatically downloads torrents of your favourite shows. You no longer need to manually download torrent files, or find a working RSS feed for each show you wish to subscribe to. TVShows does that for you. Simply select your subscriptions and set your preferences from within the TVShows application and we'll take care of the rest. TVShows uses a lightweight background process which automatically launches at a regular interval (chosen by you) to check for new episodes.

Features:

  • Background Process: There's no need to run TVShows constantly. A silent and unobtrusive background process will download new episodes as soon as they are available.
  • Quality Selection: Choose your preferred quality settings (Normal, High or Very High) and TVShows will download the closest one available.
  • Show List: Stop hunting for individual, working torrents and RSS feeds. TVShows does all the hard work for you. Just search for the show then click Subscribe.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 0.44:
  • Removed over 1162 junk shows from the list. More info here
  • Blocked the misnamed "CSI New York 07x03" and "Doctor Who 20x5"
  • Attempted to clear up confusion surrounding show qualities.
  • Rearranged the Preferences window.
  • Fixed a possible bug with Ruby 1.9 (thanks to Justin Case).
  • TVShows now supports sending anonymous system information. This will be used to decide which OSX versions to support.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

TIMPLASTER  This is one of the best apps. I don't even have to think about it, and within minutes of the show being aired, it begins downloading on my Mac. And it uses some of the best torrents, it only takes about 15 minutes to download a show! Great app, thank you so much.

MATTPRICE  It looks like the ezRSS website is having DNS issues. Until those get straightened out there isn't much I can do.

In the meantime, though, I'm at least trying to work out some more helpful error messages. :)

TDU  Great app, but needs more options in the quality preferences. You should be able to select different file sizes/settings for different files somehow. EG a 1/2 show at 350 MB is good quality. And hour show at the same file size is not. The general categories of "normal, high, very high' are just too vague when you are downloading a bunch of different length shows.

MARKH  TVshows just Works! Absolutely the easiest program I have ever used. Pick your shows from a list longer than you knew existed (Hint: no need to scroll to your faves, just type in the first few letters and it jumps to that point on the list). Then tell it which episode to start with.

Nothing happens until you quit the program -- THEN all the torrents open like a deck of cards. Just hit , , ! Oh, baby! This is StYliNg.

MARKH  "Just hit , , ," should read: "Just hit Enter, Enter, Enter!" I put around the Enter and it did not print correctly.

DINGDONGDADDY  Thanks for "nothing happens till you quit."

I'd been waiting two days for the thing to kick in before I read this!

JOHNNY ROCKET  its great that someone has taken up the project and has it working. and very responsive to help. After posting my previous issue here, I realized it wasn't the place for it and found the bug submission link on the new developers web site. We worked on it and found it was an issue with just that episode. Thanks for reviving a great app!

MATTPRICE  Just for future reference, I can't fix bugs if people don't submit bug reports.

And yes, for some reason Fringe S2E2 doesn't seem to download. Other shows should work correctly, as well as downloading past episodes of Fringe. I'm currently looking into the issue.

DRDUL  Thanks for reviving this. It looks great so far — except for the horrible olive-green highlighting. How about a prefs setting to let users choose another colour? :-)

BTW, it's a minor detail, but in version 0.4.1, a customized toolbar resets to the default configuration the next time the app is launched. Also, TVShows doesn't remember the window size or location. Again, these are minor complaints for an otherwise elegantly simple and easy-to-use app.

MATTPRICE  It isn't set it stone yet, but I'm looking into redoing the interface, including getting rid of that olive green. ;) Also looking into the window preferences issue. I know neither are that major, but I can certainly see why they would both be annoying.

Glad everything else seems to be working for you, though. I'm always happy to consider any feature requests people might have.

DRDUL  Hi Matt! Thanks for the response. TVShows downloaded its first torrent for me today, and it worked perfectly. What a great app! I just sent you a donation as thanks, and as an additional incentive to lose the olive green. :-) All the best!
