DESCRIPTION
QuitsApps is a utility for quitting groups of applications. You can either use "quit flags" to mark a collection of applications for immediate termination, or create a schedule for quitting applications at different times. Subsequently you can relaunch the last set of terminated applications.
This functionality is also available as a menu in the system menu bar.
QuitsApps is part of the Limit Point Software "Utilities Bundle" which includes all software at http://www.limit-point.com/Utilities.html. A single donation unlocks all the utility software, upgrades are always free and new products always included.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.0.9:
- The menu bar version now displays the applications icon in the menu, and the entries are listed alphabetically to facilitate finding an application to quit.
- The menu bar version now has a "Relaunch" menu item enabling you to relaunch any applications you just quit.
Version 1.0.8:
- User request fullfilled: The menu bar item version now enables you to quit apps by selecting them from the menu. Each menu bar item also displays "Up Since" (date and time) and "Where" (file system path) in the item's tool tip.
Version 1.0.7:
- Introduced the "menu bar item" (MBI) version of the application. QuitsAppsMBI is a menu bar application which will quit all running (non-system) applications. It displays the name of each application it will quit. Note that it only tries to quit the applications. If an application is busy or has unsaved changes it most likely will not quit, and you will be prompted for confirmation.
- Modified QuitsApps to work with the QuitsAppsMBI application. In particular QuitsAppsMBI will detect changes to the preferences specified in QuitsApps, such as the application password. (This is currently the only preference value that is observed by QuitsAppsMBI.)
Version 1.0.6:
- The management and editing of dates has been improved. The display of dates in the application list table is now conventional, and is also no longer "editable in place."
- An option to use "force quitting" is now available in Preferences, primarily to manage processes that don't respond to "quit (Apple) events." (There is still no guarantee the application will be quit.)
- Bug fix: When the computer woke from sleep the program would try to run a schedule even if nothing was scheduled to run (which resulted in an alert being displayed.)
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 and later.

NAOH This app looks like a real timesaver for me as a system administrator. I often have to update and reboot many Mac workstations at once, and being able to ensure all the apps have fully quit would save me lots of running around from Mac to Mac. Quite often Adobe applications will seize up if I attempt to quit them all at once, and I end up having to force-quit them. I'm not sure if this is already a feature, but it would be useful if QuitsApps were to have an option for force-quitting an application if it becomes unresponsive after a quit has been triggered. (This could be due to a file needing to be saved, or the application seizing up, as mentioned earlier.) Ideally QuitsApps would also be able to trigger a save of any open files, but I suspect the work involved would make it far more complicated to develop than it already is. (Version 1.0.7)

FARIBORZ I do agree with PAULSRANDALL. This application is really a manna from heaven when many applications are open and you need to quit them at the blink of an eye. You can of course relaunch them effortlessly when you're done. This is really a time saver for a person like me who works with many applications a day and I do recommend it to all serious Mac-users. PAULSRANDALL I simply do not see the point of the negative review. I downloaded QuitsApps and made a donation. It does exactly what I want it to do and does it well. I use it to kill everything before I run a Retrospect backup because this application takes over my computer when it runs. Backups complete much faster, saving me lots of time. (Version 1.0.5)

JPPAGLIARO Thank you, thank you! At last :-) Version 1.0.5 was a nice update, with a scheduling feature I had planned from the start. (Version 1.0.5)

JOHN NOWAK Utterly pointless. The developer should work on his skill and produce better software... not continue pushing crap. Mac shareware at its worst. (Version 1.0.4)

What's the point of a "review" when you don't substantiate it with any legitimate viewpoints on the specific features you call crap? What's pointless to you may well be worthwhile to someone else.

JOHN NOWAK Not everything deserves a detailed rationale. Some things are so obviously useless to any impartial observer that I don't need to explain it to them. (Version 1.0.4)
| Jun 9 2007 |
JPPAGLIARO Well, if it's needless to provide any rationale for your statements because they're so obvious, then why would it be necessary for you to make any comments in the first place? I'd think that would be equally obvious to the so called "impartial observer," which your obviously not, implying no rationale for making them at all. You're just annoyed with this program and have to vent your emotions publicly. But why? I mean, why do you care to do that? What motivates you to do that? It just amazes me. (Version 1.0.4)
| Jun 9 2007 |
JOHN NOWAK I found it insulting that you would seek money for this. If it were free, I'd not have said anything. (Version 1.0.4)
| Jun 9 2007 |
JPPAGLIARO The fee for the program actually provides access to ALL of my utility programs listed at: http://www.limit-point.com/Utilities.html not just QuitsApps. In other words, it's part of the "Utilities Bundle." Maybe the demo alert screen doesn't make that clear, but I think the Utilities page does. Maybe there's something else there you'd find useful? Surely you can't be insulted that I cahrge a one time fee that unlocks so much software, especially when I don't even charge for upgrades to any of my software, even the software which isn't part of the Utilities package. (Version 1.0.4)
| Jun 9 2007 |
JOHN NOWAK Well that would be a bit different then, wouldn't it. (Version 1.0.4)

MACUPDATE ADMIN Perhaps you should have investigated the issue a bit before trashing the developer offhand. And that would be a bit different then, wouldn't it? (Version 1.0.4)

JOHN NOWAK Oh I've let you off easy! (Version 1.0.4)

JPPAGLIARO Oh, how's that? (Version 1.0.4)
| May 8 2007 |
JPPAGLIARO Oh, by the way. You seem to think I don't put serious work into my utilities, so why don't you go look at the reviews for my other utility, AddMovie, over here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22667/addmovie Seems some people disagree with you. Then maybe you can jump off the QuitsApps heckler bandwagon :-) (Version 1.0.3)

TOMIS A 10 second delay upon first run. Numerous disabled menu items that have clearly been left in place from an xCode project template. It's quite obvious the developer is hoping to make a lot of money by charging for numerous small utility programs without exerting much effort in the development process. The ironic thing is that he could have exerted his energies developing one program that is much more useful than all these little money-grabs. (Version 1.0.2)

JPPAGLIARO I have done that. I also wrote Mailings and Blue Crab, among other apps, which you can find on the same website all these utilities exist on . Those are full-featured applications, which the utilities are not meant to be. Why are you so annoyed that someone is trying to make money? Don't you? Once you register one utility you have access to ALL of them. And I charge no upgrade fee for ANY of my programs. I even let you pick your price. Rather than publicize the trvial fault of the program like deactivated menu items, why not send me a constructve email to notify me? That's what many other people do, and then I fix the faults. You know why. In fact, had you sent me an email, judging by the date of this review of yours, I could have had that fixed for version 1.0.3. Next one. (Version 1.0.3)

JIMW Make this fee a non-issue: For basic 'Force Quit': Press 'Command - Option - Escape.' For more control and flexibility: Download 'Process Wizard.' Enough said. (Version 1.0.1)

ENNUINI Someone actually wants to charge for this? And upon visiting the developer's site, I need to say that a compulsory "donation" in order to obtain full software functionality is not a "donation" at all. It's a "purchase". Why the "donation" bit at all? Is it a tax-circumvention scheme? (Version 1.0)

JPPAGLIARO Look closer, and you'll see that a "donation" of a minimal amount unlocks all (currently 25) applications available on the page you visited. Applications like "AddMovie," "TransformMovie," "Miana," "WordDump" and many more. This is just version 1.0 of QuitsApps. I have a lot planned for it, including functionality that goes beyond the scope implied by the name. And, all upgrades to everything is FREE. So, semantics here are silly. (Version 1.0)
