DESCRIPTION
Raw Photo Processor (RPP) is a RAW converter, supporting almost all available digital RAW formats. Think of it as of a development machine in terms of film photography - first you have to develop your roll right, then do whatever you want with it. So this is NOT a full featured photo processing package, you will need Photoshop or some other tool to apply sharpness, cropping and so on, but you may use RPP for some very carefully picked amount of operations.
It's easy to integrate RPP with other tools, f.e. it provides special export plugin for Adobe Lightroom
The main idea behind this application is to do quality conversion without blocking shadows, clipping highlights, spoiling colors and it's all about returning that natural film-like look to your pictures.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.9.9:
- Added support for Canon S90.
- Black point in output files should always be 0 now (before it could be higher for some cameras). This change affects all cameras, so please report if you see unexpected clipping in shadows or highlights.
- Bugfix in preview for monochrome modes.

MISCHIVO This is a question to the developer. I have Mac OS 10.6 and RPP, for which I haven't yet donatedwill Snow Leopard override your multiprocessor utilization limit? From what I'm noticing, the program seems to be using all four of my Mac Pro's cores to make adjustments.

RPP Without unlock code it will use 2 cores for conversion, with unlock code it will use all available. It may look like it uses more cores without the code though because Mac OS uses them for it's own needs to display progress bars and other UI elements of RPP. This is nice, but doesn't make conversion significantly faster. Sorry for late answer - I've just noticed the question. I'd recommend to ask questions like this in email or in RPP support forum for faster turnaround.

BBUM I just received my T1i. Until Apple ships a software update that supports the RAW files produced by the T1i, I can't directly use the images in Aperture or iPhoto. I had assumed I could use Canon's included software. For whatever reason, it doesn't work. Raw Photo Processor to the rescue. It works fine and does a decent job of converting the images to a usable format. The ease of use is lacking; trying to figure out how to create a set of settings to use for batch conversions has proven to be extremely tedious and frustrating. Once you wrestle through that, though, the conversions are quick and painless.

FOTODIVR It is interesting to see how people comment about having to actually pay for someone's work! Yes, I know we are all supposed to just enjoy the fruits of someone's labour without them receiving any compensation because that is how we all work. I mean if my boss said to me that I was not getting paid for the last year or more and would I be willing to work more for even less - I know I would jump for glee and dance around the room and go over and kiss his ... um... shoes... i would be so elated! Now for for the software - this little tool does exactly what it says it will do and I like it. I have been a photographer for over 50 years (yes, before digital) and a digital photographer since 1995 - cameras were VERY expensive and not too many megapixels... Charge more - you deserve it! | |

CHUCKK Please take note, RPP is not completely a freeware product anymore. It REQUIRES an unlock code to access all of its feature, and this code can be obtained for a fee. So that makes it shareware, or crippleware. While the fee is reasonable, and RPP is useful, even in it crippled mode, it is not rationale for the author to promote it as "free".

RPP Categorize it any way you want. All features which were available in free versions are still free and all conversion related features also available for free, including support for new cameras and new conversion methods. Donation unlocks only some workflow helpers and support for more than 2 CPU cores on Mac Pro and Quad Powermacs. Size of donation is not limited in any way, including 0.00, i.e. not required - I send unlock key with no questions to anybody who have difficulties with donating and asks for it in email.

DRDUL I own Photoshop CS4 with Camera RAW 5.2, but I use Raw Photo Processor to convert images from RAW format. Not because it's better (it's not as easy to use and doesn't provide real-time previews), but because it doesn't mess with the RAW files from my Panasonic LX3. Adobe Camera RAW and SilkyPix both automatically correct LX3 RAW files for barrel distortion, but at the cost of losing a good part of the image around the edges. To its credit, RPP simply delivers what the sensor received, distortion and all. I'd much rather have the option of correcting the barrel distortion myself in Photoshop, than lose part of my image. Thanks goodness I have RPP as an option!

FLABROCKET I contributed today, got my code, and really noticed the speedup on my 1st-generation 4-core mac pro. I rely on this program a lot, it manages subtle WB tweaks that the Big Boys can't, and the price is right (even if you contribute, I mean). May I request that the new Canon Powershot G10 cr2 format be supported as soon as possible? No lulz please, this program works very well with my 1Ds Mark III but I always carry a small camera around and just got my G10. | |
