Phynchronicity is a graphical user interface (GUI) for the Fink Unix-software package management system on Mac OS X (http://www.finkproject.org). Fink is a powerful command-line tool for installing and updating thousands of Unix-based applications for the Mac. But Fink's sheer power and scale make it hard to use, even with a GUI.

Phynchronicity aims to make Fink easy to use. Unlike other GUI tools for Fink, it does not overwhelm you with options. Instead, with a simple three-pane interface, it lets you get started doing what you want to do--finding, installing, and removing packages.

AMAKE  While we do need something to replace the stagnant FinkCommander, at least it's free.

But this? $20 for an admittedly simple GUI for a free package manager? Doesn't sound remotely worth it to me.

IGAUCHO  Still really slow at updating the table information. It updates one category at a time. I hope this gets addressed soon.

PSYCHOS  $25 for something that manages, if similarly priced by greedy developers, constitutes tens of thousands of dollars worth of software.

Except, the packages in fink are generally free (and all free, as far as money goes.)

You want people to pay you $25 for a simple wrapper to all of this? Are you really that desperate and greedy?

I do hope anyone who has, for whatever reason, paid for this, returns it and tries to file a dispute with PayPal and/or their credit card company. This is an ABSOLUTE scam.

IGAUCHO  This finally feels much more usable now that categories are cached. This release definitely makes it more pleasant to use and a little faster. The only thing missing now is an interactive mode.
