DESCRIPTION

Apache Directory Studio (formerly known as LDAP Studio) is a complete LDAP tooling platform intended to be used with any LDAP server however it is particularly designed for use with the Apache Directory Server.

Developed as a sub-project of the Directory Top Level Project, Apache Directory Studio is an Eclipse RCP application that takes full advantage of the benefits inherent in the Eclipse platform. Composed of several Eclipse (OSGi) plugins, Apache Directory Studio can be easily upgraded with additional plugins.

    N. SILVA  Outstanding and fully-featured LDAP browser. While it's still in development, it is already very usable. I am using it to browse an Active Directory and to make minor edits.

ALLENW  I really like the app, but it is a bit unusable due to one major bug and one minor one for anyone hoping to use it for critical work:

major: It looks like LDAP Studio doesn't like DN's with / in them. Operations on such DN's results in the queries to the LDAP server failing This makes it particularly hard to use for entries like automountKey=/home, which are very crucial for many deployments.

minor: Clicking on an such an entry throws up an error that says "Error reading entry". Clicking on details shows an LDAP error code 32 - no such object. Rather than show you what LDAP Studio is trying to query, I had to hop onto the server to see what it was looking for. [That's when I discovered the major problem above.]

    and

ABSOLUTEOLE  LDAP Studio is the best LDAP client ever, on any Platform.

It comes as a set of Eclipse Plugins or a Rich Client Application and is very intuitive and easy to use.

Thanks to a terrific community, it just keeps getting better every day.

ALEX KARASULU  LDAP Studio is just at it's infancy. Our first step was a simple browser and schema plugin. We are planning to add several new features to it in the near future which will make it much more easy to use LDAP.

Developers are not comfortable using LDAP because of a lack of solid tooling. Often they resort to just adding the tables they need in a RDBMS instead of properly storing this information in a Directory where it belongs. LDAP Studio's aim is to remove this lack of comfort we have to provide tooling for LDAP on par with the rich tooling available for the world of the RDBMS.

LDAP studio can be used with any LDAP server but it will ultimately compliment ApacheDS best as ApacheDS aims to modernize this archaic protocol through standard protocol mechanisms.
