DESCRIPTION

Ubercaster is the first complete podcast production suite for the Mac.

Leave your garage and feel at home. Ubercaster has been made with podcaster's needs in mind.

Auto ducking, effects, chapters for enhanced podcasts, ID3 tags, album cover art, mp3/AAC/AIFF encoding - you name it. It's all there. Seamlessly integrated.

Features include:

  • Use a previous project as a template for new ones.
  • Define multiple microphones and add special input panels for iChat, Skype and Gizmo recording.
  • Record audio live.
  • Real multi track recording and editing.
  • Insert new recordings or overwrite any part of your previous show like in a text document.
  • Enhanced podcasts - divide your episode into labeled chapters each provided with pictures and links.
  • Encode podcasts as MP3, (enhanced) AAC or AIFF and upload them to web servers (via FTP, .Mac, etc.) at once with a single click.
  • Start and stop audio clips or change volumes without clicking the mouse.
  • Save your project as an archive which contains all audio you've used in your episode.
  • And much more...

This makes Ubercaster suitable for both, newbies and advanced podcasters. All you need is Ubercaster, a Macintosh and something to tell...

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.6.3:
  • PleasantConnect is now able to run in 64-bit environments (aka Snow Leopard).
  • PleasantConnect is now included in the Übercaster bundle. Install it with a button click in the Advanced Preferences view.
Please update PleasantConnect, if you've already installed an older version! To do so, use the PleasantConnect uninstaller, included on the installation disk in the Extras folder. After restarting the computer, use the new Install PleasantConnect button in the Advanced Preferences view in Übercaster to install the new version.
  • Pressing "Backspace" deletes the selected chapter marker when the Chapters subview on the Cut layer is activated (i.e. has the keyboard focus and displays a blue border).
  • Fixed several issues with Undo/Redo on the Cut Layer.
  • Fixed an issue with parameter windows for non-Cocoa-enabled AudioUnits (e.g. AUPeakLimiter and several 3rd party Audio Units) on Snow Leopard.
  • Audio from the Audiochat panel and the Skype panel in the same project are now routed correctly. Audio in from a Skype panel is now also routed to audio out of the Audiochat panel (i.e. "Ubercaster Out") and vice versa.
  • Fixed an issue with AAC export when running on SnowLeopard .
  • Fixed an issue with Skype panels concerning spaces and dashes in telephone numbers.
  • Fixed a memory management bug concerning Skype panels (crashed sometimes on hang up).
  • Fixed an issue with picking up Skype calls with Skype 2.8 (caused by a bug in Skype 2.8).
There's an issue with recording Skype conversations with Skype 2.8: This version doesn't mute internal audio when the audio stream is switched to Übercaster. This is also a bug in Skype 2.8 (we already opened a bug report on this at Skype). Unfortunately there's currently no way to fix this within Übercaster. The workaround for this is to manually set the output volume in Skype to 0 (zero).
  • Fixed a GUI problem with the Source subview on Cut layer, when deleting the currently displayed track.
  • Fixed a bug which may cause a crash when drawing waveforms on Cut layer in some circumstances.
  • Fixed an issue with wave forms. These sometimes disappeared during playing in some zoom levels.
  • Improved overall stability.

TRENTI  I just lost 2 1/2 hours of my work by having this application crashed. And let me say, this was not the first time it crashed. It liked crashing in Leopard, and it seems to have this behaviour in Snow Leopard. Is this a hidden feature of this app, crashing over and over again?

FIX IT! Or change the application name to ubercrasher.

Oh, and btw: While adding chapter marks in post-production one should be able to navigate through it with the keyboard instead of being forced to use the mouse to activate the fields to fill in. Jeez...

GLOBETROTTERDK  How does this compare to WireTap Studio? WTS seems to have an advantage on the amount of input sources, but Übercaster seems to have more editing capabilities, or am I wrong? I am trying to decide what to get to start podcasting.Übercaster at first glance seems to have a higher learning curve for a newbie.

NDLAWMAN  Ubercaster is great. It turns a neophyte like me into a professional performer, producer and editor. Because of its ease of use, my family thinks that I am a genius. I have posted some podcasts that sound professional. This is a great buy. I only wish I would have known that MU would be offering it discounted!

FUNKY7  That application is just great!

I love the ability to automatically encode episodes into different formats with one mouse click.

That's a real time saver when creating separate versions of a podcast (e.g. a MP3 version and an enhanced AAC version)!

MACFEVRE  At first look, this app looks a little confusing. Once you use it and get used to it, it's a great program. Once you go through the screencasts and tutorials on the website, it becomes an incredible product that is truly innovative. And, unlike GB, it automatically saves, and doesn't do an entire mixdown and take a half-hour every time you save it. The Release portion is absolute genius. Everything is automatic.

GRYPHONENT  For $80 I get the entire iLife package... the new one, just a couple of months away, including all the goodies from iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, iWeb, iTunes, to Garageband! Bet the new version has lots of goodies. Ubercaster... I might buy for $25 or $30... but definitely not for $80!

MACFEVRE  Have you tried it? Why pay for any software when there is freeware available??? This is the greatest podcasting software that I've seen. It does much more with podcasting than GarageBand, and it does it better. At least look at the screencasts on the website before saying it's not worth $80, because it is worth it. You always get what you pay for. If you want a $20 program, that's what you'll get.

No, I don't work for Ubercaster, either. I just like the app.

KELLHOUND1  I have Ubercaster, and I'm very happy with it. Sure, you could do exactly what Ubercaster does with Garageband and iTunes, but it makes things more difficult. Furthermore, Ubercaster is a lot easier to use. For instance, in Garageband if you want to add an intro and outro jingle you'd have to import the files from the hard drive and physically place them at the beginning and at the end once the podcast if finished.

With Ubercaster you can make templates that have your different jingles, and when you're ready to play the outro at the end, just press the hotkey button and it records away.

Output to music files is much better than in Garageband. In Ubercaster you can switch between AAC and MP3, and also designate your own settings extensively.

True $80 is a lot of money, but if you podcast on a regular basis, Ubercaster is a beautiful product. In fact, after I tried Ubercaster I started podcasting more because of how easy it was. When I was using Garageband I'd only update my Website podcast page every once in a while because the process was so laborious.

In any event, download the app and try it out for a while. No harm if you don't like it.
