HoudahGeo is a one-stop geocoding application for the Mac. With HoudahGeo you may "pin" photos to the locations where they were taken. The thus created information may be exported to EXIF tags as well as to Google Earth KML files.
Such a file allows for browsing your photos within Google Earth.
You don't need a digital camera with a built-in GPS
You don't need a GPS device
Don't miss out on these cool features:
Automatic geocoding from a GPX or NMEA (Sony) track logs
GPX download from Garmin, Wintec or Magellan GPS devices
Manual geocoding from GPX way points
Manual geocoding using Google Earth or Google Maps
New feature: Improved Flickr export There is now an option to disable machine tags when uploading to Flickr.
Enhancement: Improved Google Earth Geocoding Google Earth geocoding now tries to preserve zoom level, heading and tilt when flying to a new location. Hint: Adjust the "fly to" speed in Google Earth preferences for faster relocation.
Enhancement: Improved Google Earth Geocoding When selecting an already geocoded image, Google Earth automatically flies to the location of that picture. Note: This feature requires Google Earth 4.3 beta.
Bug fix: Time zone abbreviations Specifying camera time zone by abbreviation or GMT offset did not work. GMT time zone was used. This is now fixed.
Version 1.4.8:
Enhancement: Vastly improved Google Earth Geocoding Google Earth geocoding now provides readings of altitude in addition to latitude and longitude. It now also works when the Google Earth view is tilted.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later, a digital camera and optionally a GPS device.
GAVIN CUTSHALL This is a software version of a sharp tool. It's refined to do one task very well ... in this case geocoding photos. There is nothing better on the Mac. It also makes my Sony GPS receiver more useful since I no longer have to use Bootcamp to run the utility. (Version 1.4.5)
CHRISTOPHER PATRICK TODD I have always wanted a program like this. It is very intuitive and the fact that it can open iPhoto and Aperture libraries and write the information in files that you have placed in there makes it amazingly easy to use. Now all I need to do is buy one of those GPS thingies. :) (Version 1.4.1)
