DESCRIPTION
ForkLift is a new file transfer solution that not a lot of people have heard of yet. MacUpdate has decided to partner with the great folks at BinaryNights to expose to the world what we're calling "the next Transmit." We think that ForkLift's developers are adding features at a faster pace than the most popular FTP client on the Mac. We think Forklift has a strong chance of pulling out from the shadows and becoming the next major file transfer app on the Mac. ForkLift is a powerful file transfer solution. It allows you to transfer files using FTP, SFTP, FXP, WebDAV, Amazon S3 and even Bluetooth. Its dual pane view maximizes productivity, a Cocoa based interface with smart preview and spring-loaded folders lets you browse your local and remote folders and use Favorites just like in Finder. Use it to edit files or preview images stored in a remote folder, even within archives.
ForkLift integrates a full featured batch rename tool, an application deleter and a small code called droplet, which enables you to create automated upload shortcuts for your most used remote folders, and place them anywhere in your file system.

One of MacUpdate's favorite features is called "FXP." It allows you to copy files from one remote FTP server to another, without first downloading it to your Mac and then uploading it to the destination server. As you can imagine, this direct connect ability can save a ton of time moving files between servers and making fast backups.

ANG Two things VERY important are missing for synchronization : 1. Delete files or folders from destination side if not present in the source. And also if there is an agent that automatize/schedule the synchronization... ------------------------------------------------------------ Hey, developper, after that Forklift will be the winner. DEV Regarding the first thing, your wish has been granted - you just probably didn't notice the 'Delete orphaned items from target' option in the sync panel. It does exactly this. Regarding the other thing, we've wanted scheduling in FL for a while now, and wiill probably address this issue in the 2.0 release.

major bug with copying from FAT filesystems with special character / will result in Error: bad file name passed to routine: there may be no bad names in the final system! (-37) so, obviously, still has not been fixed, and this is not a beta, and I am posting it here so others are aware of it

DEV Well, we've not been able to reproduce this error so far, but we'll be checking it out to see if the fault is with us. And no, this issue was not addressed in the 1.7.1 update.

MARK FLORIDA ForkLift is a nice file browser and FTP/SFTP/WebDAV client, but I think the price is a bit steep. $20 or $25 seems much more reasonable, considering the competition for this kind of app. I'm glad I bought it as part of a software bundle -- I like it but could not see paying full price for it.

ISTRA just downloaded and want to try it out, but cannot enter serial... Both menu points ("Purchase" and "Enter serial") are black but dead... Any ideas?

ANONYMOUS Sorry, but I can't refrain from noting that bugs of this kind are perfectly normal for a BETA release - all the more that this version is sporting a brand new copy engine which hasn't seen a lot of testing yet. Also, please do not forget to send us reports of these bugs - that's the purpose of the BETA. We also have a User Forum which is much better place to discuss the Beta.

LEE123 There are so many great reviews of this product but it locks up every time I try it. This is pretty rare on my laptop, it is usually really stable. No offense to those who love it. I will probably try again. I am a sucker for file managers.

TEORIC Well, yummy is not usable as a file manager, is it? Furthermore, it does not easily permit to choose ‘commander’ type keyboard shortcuts. So, open your eyes, there are differences (even if they may be irrelevant to you). But of course, neither programme beats the flexibility of the midnight commander in a terminal, but sometimes clicking is quite nice. ;-)
