DESCRIPTION
ForkLift MacUpdate has decided to partner with the great folks at BinaryNights to expose to the world what we're calling "the next Transmit." We think that ForkLift's developers are adding features at a faster pace than the most popular FTP client on the Mac. We think Forklift has a strong chance of pulling out from the shadows and becoming the next major file transfer app on the Mac.
Forklift is a powerful file manager and ferociously fast FTP client clothed in a clean and versatile UI that offers the combination of absolute simplicity and raw power expected from a well-executed Mac software.
ForkLift will connect to any remote server FTP, SFTP, Amazon S3, WebDAV, the SMB, NIS and AFP shares on your local network, or your Bluetooth mobile phone- pretty much anything you can plug into or hook up to a Mac. ForkLift also carries a complete toolbox for managing your files, including Folder Synchronization, Batch Renaming, Archive handling, Application deleter, editing files over remote connections and many more. All these power features are packaged into a Finder-like, dual-pane interface that delivers superior workflow while remaining absolutely familiar to use, along with QuickLook, Spotlight search and all.
Key features:
- Dual-pane view
- Connect to FTP/SFTP, FTP/TLS, Bluetooth
- Folder Synchronization
- Tabs
- Archives: Rar, Zip, Tar, Gz
- Amazon S3 support
- WebDAV support
- Remote edit and preview
- Spotlight and Filters
- Growl support
- Favorites and Favorite Groups
- QuickLook local and remote files
- Droplets
One of MacUpdate's favorite features is called "FXP." It allows you to copy files from one remote FTP server to another, without first downloading it to your Mac and then uploading it to the destination server. As you can imagine, this direct connect ability can save a ton of time moving files between servers and making fast backups.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.7.6:

- AFP connection broken on Snow Leopard
- Amazon S3 default ACL handling fixed
- Amazon S3 issue where partial transfers were reported as completed
- Go To Folder destination field produced crash if left empty
REQUIREMENTS

AV Best FTP Manager. Ive tried a few of the big names on & off, and although not an intensive ftp user, this works and works very well for me to manage my Mobileme iDisk account. And it, as someone said, looks & feels like a Mac app should. The others are ugly in my opinion. Also like the droplets - a v.easy way to upload a file. Please continue to develop!! DR. GIRLFRIEND I bought this app as part of the December 2007 MacUpdate Promo Bundle and in all that time it has been steadily maintained and consistently improved by the developers, yet they haven't once asked for more money. Contrast that with two other great programs that were sold in the same bundle: 1. RapidWeaver, who months later, bumped up the version number and wanted an upgrade fee from its users. 2. Yep, who went for a ridiculously long amount of time (a year, I think) before doing any maintenance whatsoever on their app (so long, in fact, I wondered if it had been abandoned) and then recently had the nerve to bump the version up and also stick their hands out for an upgrade fee. Now don't get me wrong: I believe in supporting the company's whose products I use, but I also don't like to feel like I've been had. All three of these apps are excellent at what they do, but if you want excellence AND devs who are honest, hard-working, and care about their users, then look no further. ForkLift delivers. ForkLift is, imo, the best ftp app around and it's well-worth the investment. You will get your money's worth if you buy this app. (Version 1.7.5)

ICONZ113 Just bought this app and I love it, wish I tried it sooner. FTP, dual pane file browsing, batch rename, file splitting, uninstaller, synchronization. I used to use transmit, I think ill be using this in the future. Educational licenses are only 9 bucks too, cant beat that. Just email them and ask for an educational license promotion code to enter in when you make your purchase. (Version 1.7.4)

Other FTP apps have been allowing editing with an app of your choice for years, even before ForkLift ever existed. (Version 1.7.3sl)

LARCENOUS I picked up this application in December of '07 in the MacUpdate bundle at that time, and honestly, I couldn't even tell you what other software was part of that bundle. I'm sure I probably still use some of it, but the one which has stood out over time since then has been ForkLift. Put simply, it ROCKS. It has very stable - and simple-to-understand connection operations for all protocols, but the truly killer feature is the ability to live-edit remote documents in any editor of your choice. This one feature is SO well-executed that it's worth the entire price of that app just for that alone. It looks, feels and acts like a Mac app; the folks at Binary Nights know when to lay off with tossing every feature under the sun into the mix, creating bloatware. This is quick, responsive, error-free (at least from my use of it; haven't tried yet under Snow Leopard - but hey, it's only been five days!), and best of all, reliable. Just get it. SPACEMANSPIFF Cool that Forklift's back; a favorite app, I was bummed that it didn't work on Snow Leopard. Using Quick Look annoyingly resizes the sidebar but it's a start. (Version 1.7.3sl)

VGOKLANI Snow Leopard builds have been out for the last year, why is the developer releasing these "half-baked" hotfixes? Has he been on vacation for the past year? (Version 1.7.3sl)

DEV Yeah, I must admit we didn't anticipate that the switch to Snow Leopard will require so many things to be fixed. We've been absolutely immersed working on ForkLIft 2.0 for the last 5-6 months, and when we took a look at the SL update about two months ago, it turned out that there are some major technical obstacles (see our forums and blogs for details). Plus, I've been on vacation. (Version 1.7.3sl)

M4C7D I happen to still have v1.2. It runs fine on Snow Leopard. (Version 1.7.3sl)
