DESCRIPTION
SuperTuxKart is a Free 3D kart racing game, focusing on fun and not on realistic racing physics. Race with your kart on more than 10 tracks against Tux and his friends and be the first to cross the finishing line. With many items you can make sure that you will win. You can play with up to 4 friends on one PC racing against each other, or just try to beat the computer.
See the great lighthouse or drive through the sand and visit the pyramids. Race under water or in space, watching the stars passing by. Have some rest under the palms on the beach (watching the other karts overtaking you :) ). But don't fall in the volcano.
You can do a single race against other karts, compete in one of several Grand Prix, or try to beat the high score in time trials on your own.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 0.6.2:
- Bugfix: game could crash in rare circumstances.
- Bugfix: Restarting a GP (with the in-race menu ESC) would not subtract already allocated points.
- Bugfix: A race could be finished with an invalid shortcut.
- Bugfix: Playing a challenge after a splitscreen game would play the challenge in split screen.
- Bugfix: Items explode over void.
- Bugfix: Grass in castle arena slowed down the kart.
- Bugfix: GP result showed kart identifier instead of name.
- Improvement: there is now 1 1 sec. wait period for the race result screen, avoiding the problem that someone presses space/enter at the end of a race, immediately quitting the menu before it can be read.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

RATTUS 96 MEGABYTES!! FOR THIS? Now that thats out of the way, it's also: horribly uninspired and slow as molasses. I approve of the open source movement and I'm sure that technically this game is quite an achievement. But in it's initial state SuperTuxKart is a joke. I will try it again once it hits a proper 1.0 release (hoping for better things from the developers!) (Version 0.3)

THEE ALEX I downloaded this hoping that it would be a serviceable replacement for Super Mario Kart from back in the days of the SNES. It ran fine on my 2GHz MacBook with 2gb of RAM, no glitches, no slowing down, no problems at all. In the end though I've uninstalled it due to the lack of motor sound when the buggy is going, I found it hard to feel interested when the buggy rumbled around the track in almost silence. However, I did go and go and find a rom of Super Mario Kart which runs like a dream on my SNES emulator so I guess I have SuperTuxKart to thank for that!! (Version 0.3)

EINGEBILDET This is a fun game, though requires a lot of processor power to run properly, which I found surprising. On a G3/500 that normally runs a lot of open source games without serious glitches, this stutters and stumbles all over the place, even in 800x600 mode with no music. I suggest going over to the SuperTuxKart site and getting 0.3 - it plays smoother and has Hexley! For those who don't know, Hexley is the mascot of DarwinOS, otherwise known as the guts of OS X!! COMMUNICATOR Would not launch on my G5 Dual 2.0. Attempting to run from the DMG tried to work. Copying to a directory, it would not launch. It got to the video resolution screen, but did nothing. If it would launch, then I might have more of a review. (Version 0.22)

FL0R!AN Did you try to delete the config file (as described in the ReadMe)? This should help. (Version 0.22)

CMUVIOLIN Not bad. Graphics are a little boxy, and everything is very plain. can't beat the price though. The one thing I do not like at all and the reason for deleting the program is that on my MacBook, the processor runs so hot that I hear my fan more then the game. If you can limit the processor use then I would be playing this all of the time. (Version 0.21)

MUSUBANA The problem is that SuperTuxKart installs itself as an X11-only program; you have to type a code in the X11 terminal. Now, this code doesn't seem to work on my computer... And I have no idea how to find the SuperTuxKart files, so that I can remove those 30 MB; a search for "SuperTuxKart" yields no results... Until the developer includes an uninstaller, I will dissuade other users from downloading this "game". (Version 0.2)

MUSUBANA Oh, there is a Launcher icon in the .dmg... Now everything works fine! (You just have to be aware that the package itself won't install the Launcher onto your harddrive...) (Version 0.2)
