BRUNO NEESER Finally a GUI application to set which the Apple software update server! Before I had to use the Unix console to type commands (that I never seem to remember) to accomplish the same thing. This very small application (91k) shows a dialog where you can set the IP address and port number (typically 8088) of the server that hosts the software update service. If you change your mind later and want to reset to the default Apple update server, just start the application again and click Reset Software Update Prefs to tell your machine to look for updates on Apples server. If you manage any number of OSX 10.4 equipment and a 10.4 server I strongly recommend you to set up software update services on your server, and have all your computers update from your server instead of Apples. You get better control and reduce bandwidth on your Internet connection. This application makes it a breeze to set client computers SU preference. Dont forget to make a donation, I certainly did as I really found it useful! (Version 1.0.1) |
