DESCRIPTION

Mac OS X Daylight Saving Time Software Fix updates your Mac running Mac OS X 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3 so that it will properly recognize the daylight savings time switch, as it has changed March 2007. Information about the new daylight savings time change is available at the UNH CIS DST repository.

Installation instructions:

  1. Download "DST_Update.mpkg.zip" and the Installer will automatically start the update process.
  2. Select your Startup Disk - usually "Macintosh HD".
  3. Click on the Install button on the lower right side of the window.
  4. You will need to type in your password to authenticate the installation. If the authentication fails, please try again and/or contact the person(s) responsible for your Macintosh.
  5. The Installer will notify you that you will need to RESTART after it is finished.
  6. When the Installer is finished, you should click the RESTART button.
  7. Your DST Software Fix is complete!

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.0:
  • This is the first and likely final version of this software as it fixes the Daylight Savings Time issues in all versions of Mac OS X 10.3.9 and lower versions which were previously unfixable.

    JENNSKA  I don't know how I didn't find this when I was looking before. We have a 10.2.8 server running email and having the savings time be incorrect on the server causes all sorts of weird issues, even if the display time is correct.

    Thank you for writing this, it took care of the core problem and will may my job much easier.

    BRENDAN MCKINLEY  As this patch is needed only for Mac OS X 10.0-10.2.8, I would seriously suggest anyone still using these OS releases to upgrade to at least Mac OS X 10.3.9.

    Yes there are machines that shouldn't or can't run Tiger, but any machine running 10.0-10.2.8 will run better and more securely with 10.3.9.

    Plus, if you look around on Google for a few minutes you can find copies of Panther for as little as $29.

    CULTURE OF ONE  Good idea, but sadly, not all of us can afford to upgrade. It's not as much the cost of the OS upgrade for me as the cost of upgrading all of my professional apps to work properly in 10.3.x or 10.4.x. Tiger and Panther aren't perfectly backward-compatible, and I can't afford to take a chance with the software I need for my business, nor can I justify the $1000s it would cost to upgrade all of my apps to the latest version. Maybe someday...

    DEMOLITION  I installed UNH's DST fix on one of our older G4 towers still running 10.2.8. It was a very easy process. Checking the localtime info via Terminal (as described on UNH's DST tech info page) shows that the new DST settings are in place.

    Overall, this was a worthwhile undertaking.

    MACUPDATE ADMIN  It is not included in Software Update from Apple, because Apple released an update for Daylight Savings that does not work on any version of OS X earlier than 10.3.9.

    So, a third party developer stepped up and provided a fix for other people running earlier OS X versions.

    FULTONKBD  Didn't Apple already release a patch for 10.3.9? I vaguely remember installing something about DST just a week or so ago.

    MACUPDATE ADMIN  Yes, and that worked only on 10.3.9 - 10.4.x. This "Mac OS X Daylight Saving Time Software Fix 1.0" is not by Apple and works on earlier versions of OS X

    ISLANDMACMAN  Just my opinion, obviously, but isn't it less work to just manually change the time by one hour rather than download, install and update a peice of system software?

    WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS  the problem is more than just automation -- not letting the system know about daylight savings times rules could mess up all sorts of internal system functions as well as iCal, etc. there is a lot to read on this issue if you google for DST bug.

    NSTANOSHECK  I installed this on an old clamshell iBook running Mac OS 10.2.8 and can verify that it installed and worked on it.

    It is too bad Apple, Inc. did not make a fix except for people using 10.4.6+ since they made many Macs made in the last 10 years that cannot run 10.4.x. Thank you UNH CIS!
