DESCRIPTION

Fire Widget is a drag 'n drop FTP upload widget. It has a nice interface and runs nicely. Just drop a file, the gate slides up, the file gets transfered, and you are done.

With Fire, you can:

  • Upload files to FTP servers
  • Open the uploaded files in your bowser
  • Copy the files' URLs into your pasteboard
  • Save servers and the servers' path, password and username
You can use Fire perfectly for:
  • Fast uploading of files to your server, because no FTP client starts up as fast as Fire does.
  • Replacing std uploading services like rapidshare
  • Using instead of IM transfers
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

SUPERROACH  Fire Widget does not appear to support uploading actual folders.

If I drag a folder of images to it, I get an error saying "No folder were uploaded"

Single files appear to load fine..

By being able to upload folders, you can easily sync up folders or upload whole websites easily - works real good if you have the hosting!

Is there a workaround or way that I can upload folders? Because the visual look of the widget is great.  (Version 0.1)

BUSCHFEUER  @Computernaut: Thank you very much for the feedback. I think I'll make the preferences on the back more easy for the next version. But I didn't really understood what's so difficult about them. So it would be very kind of you if you sent me an email in which you describe the whole thing in detail (maybe with examples). In the next version there will be also a function similary to that what you requested (showing of the current server you are uploading to and choice before upload). I'm thinking of a dropdown menu or sth like that. I'll hope that will help you.

P.S.: I know the name choice was not the best, I think I'll rename the whole thing at the 1.0 stable release...  (Version 0.1)

    ****.

COMPUTERNAUT  I like design of the widget, but it's not perfect, yet. I've been using Übertragen, a similar widget to Fire Widget, that does the same, and even more things on top of that.

    Pros:

    - It has a very smart feature of automatically copying the actual http:// address to the file you just uploaded, so that you can pass this info to someone else. No need to re-edit those ftp:// links that you get from other programs, such as Yummy FTP. This is the main great thing about Fire Widget, that makes me devide to keep it in my Dashboard.

    Cons:

    - First off, I had a little trial and error in order to get it to work at all. Reason for that, was that I looked too much on the hints in the address fields, etc. that come with it. For instance, the first one - the 'Host:' field - has a generic 'host.com' text already there. So I thought, well, I'll just enter my site and the domain extension after that and here we go. But in fact, you will need to enter 'ftp.host.com' for instace. Same thing with the 'FTP Path:' field, where one doesn't know whether to input the whole 'ftp.host.com' followed by the /path/to/some/folder/, OR, as it turned out to be, only the 'path/to/some/folder/' thing, and leave it like that. The rest of the things in the preferences window look allright though.

    - Secondly, I take it you can have multiple instances of this widget, for dirrerent sites and/or folders. Now, I miss some sort of text info, that clearly indicates to which server 'this' particular widget is connected to, without having to flip to the preferences side and look it out.

But that's about it, for my criticism. Other than that, I think it looks great! So, thanks a bundle, and good luck to the developer!  (Version 0.1)

KLKTRK  Thank you for taking the time to develop this, but did you take the five seconds to check if there was other widely used software named "Fire" out there? I guess not, or you wouldn't have named your widge Fire--the name of a pretty common IM app that has been out since Mac OS X 10.1  (Version 0.1)
