COMPUTERNAUT I like design of the widget, but it's not perfect, yet. I've been using Übertragen, a similar widget to Fire Widget, that does the same, and even more things on top of that. Pros: - It has a very smart feature of automatically copying the actual http:// address to the file you just uploaded, so that you can pass this info to someone else. No need to re-edit those ftp:// links that you get from other programs, such as Yummy FTP. This is the main great thing about Fire Widget, that makes me devide to keep it in my Dashboard. Cons: - First off, I had a little trial and error in order to get it to work at all. Reason for that, was that I looked too much on the hints in the address fields, etc. that come with it. For instance, the first one - the 'Host:' field - has a generic 'host.com' text already there. So I thought, well, I'll just enter my site and the domain extension after that and here we go. But in fact, you will need to enter 'ftp.host.com' for instace. Same thing with the 'FTP Path:' field, where one doesn't know whether to input the whole 'ftp.host.com' followed by the /path/to/some/folder/, OR, as it turned out to be, only the 'path/to/some/folder/' thing, and leave it like that. The rest of the things in the preferences window look allright though. - Secondly, I take it you can have multiple instances of this widget, for dirrerent sites and/or folders. Now, I miss some sort of text info, that clearly indicates to which server 'this' particular widget is connected to, without having to flip to the preferences side and look it out. But that's about it, for my criticism. Other than that, I think it looks great! So, thanks a bundle, and good luck to the developer! (Version 0.1) |
