DESCRIPTION

Ascent is an application designed to help cyclists, runners, and hikers train better by organizing activity data and presenting it in useful ways.

Using Ascent, you can download activity data directly from your GPS into the program, and immediately begin analyzing the data as it is presented to you in various graphical and textual formats. The "Animation" feature lets you re-play the activity so you can review in detail your performance during any segment of the activity.

Ascent Includes:

Main Browser

  • Ascent organizes your activities in the main browser by year, month, week, activity, and lap. Each level displays running totals for all data.
Map Viewer
  • The Map View plots the path you followed against one of several different, selectable map types.
Activity Viewer
  • The Activity View allows you to plot the activity data, such as altitude, speed, heart rate, and cadence against distance.
Summary Viewer
  • The Summary View plots totals or averages for various data items on a weekly or monthly basis.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.9.2: Fixed bug in HRM import that was preventing altitude values from being imported

Version 1.9.1: Fixed bug in 'Combine Activities' that was causing incorrect distances and lap markers

Version 1.9:

  • Polar HRM file import feature added under "File/Import..."
  • Fix for Garmin Edge 605/705 imported tracks "Active Time" calculation
  • Sync (CMD-L) should now work for the Edge 605/705. After the device is plugged into the mac via the USB cable, the GARMIN "Disk Drive" icon must appear on the desktop before the sync will work....
  • Added the ability (via Preferences) to separately choose "centigrade" or "fahrenheit" regardless of the other "units" setting (metric or statute).
  • Added "Combine Activities" feature - combines multiple activities into a one, useful if the GPS is reset during an activity
  • Added "Split Activity" feature - you can now split an activity based on an "inactive time" threshold, or at any specific point
  • Added a pseudo-3D road-surface look in the Detailed Activity View
  • Added "Drag-and-Drop" of tcx+gpx files; multiple files can be dragged into either the Calendar or Browser view and they will be imported (hrm will be supported soon...)
  • Added import of multiple files via the "Import" dialogs
  • Added the ability to import TCX files in the non-registered version, subject to the 10-activity-per-document limit
  • Fixed problem in the "Advanced" editing pane of the Detailed Data View related to metric units
  • Fixed problem exporting activities containing no valid GPS values
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

HAZMAT  Ascent is awesome. So much better than MotionBased, and as has been said, the developer is very open to feature requests.  (Version 1.8.14)

SBORDSENIUS  This app will do everything motionbased does, and a lot faster. Excellent in all ways, works perfect with my Garmin 305.  (Version 1.8)

BLLOYD  This is a fantastic app for me -- I have a Garmin 305 and use it when road and mountain biking. It downloads from the Edge perfectly, and shows a map, my route, and all the info from along the way (speed, altitude, gradient, etc.).

It is WAY better than the Garmin software -- both the PC and Mac versions of it. I was using the Garmin software for a while because I didn't know this existed... then a friend pointed it out and I tried it out and bought a license within an hour. It's already excellent and it's maturing and updated quite frequently.

Always great to find small software developers to come out with specialized Mac applications like this. Hooray for Montebello Software (I wonder whether it's named after the 5 mile, 2200 foot climb in Cupertino, CA... looking at the web site I sorta think so ;-)  (Version 1.7.3)
