DESCRIPTION

Sounds4Fun allows you to assign any sound to any of up to 70 events. Hear a sound every time you hit CAPSLOCK or when power to your Macbook is interrupted. Be alerted by a sound when the Finder has finished that long copy. Amuse your friends by having the Mac yawn when it goes to sleep or wakes up. Have HAL ask you if you are sure you made the right decision when you shut your Mac down and many, many more!

Assign a sound to any number of short phrases of up to 3 words and hear it play when the phrase is typed - fun for pranks, but possibly useful to correct your bad typing habits?

Have Sounds4Fun read out the name of the currently playing song and artist when iTunes starts playing a track.

RAYCON  Woo hoo! It works! All my old Xounds sounds work again, without APE! I hadn't tried it for more than half an hour before I paid for it.

SKAPPLIN  Ahh, finally updated. Installed in a Snow Leopard system for about an hour or two and it's working nicely. No crashes as yet. Nice to hear some noise for a change.

You may need to download directly from the developer's site as the download linked here is to the older version.

GYROFERRET  A pretty fun app, maybe not for everyday use, but fun nonetheless.

Developer support was quite fast and helpful.

FLYBOY  Nice little app when it works. BUT, it crashes a couple of times a day. This is the only app that causes me ANY problems. Don’t waste your money! Developer responded once to my cry for help but has been AWOL ever since. No response to emails.

Intel IMac 24 with 2 GB RAM, OS X 10.4.8, everything up to date.

MICHAEL DWYER  The original "SoundMaster" program from the very early days of the Mac was an extremely cool feature that even made PC users jealous. Now finally after many years of losing the capability of assigning your favorite sound samples to system events like empty trash, restart, shutdown, disk eject, error dialog etc, the nostalgia is back!

I actually registered Xounds, which tried to do something similar, but more clumsily and with severe system problems due to the APE plug-in..., but Sounds4Fun is superior and more stable.

To easily find select your sounds, drop a folder of your favorite .AIF sound files in the lowest directory on your drive (where you find the System Folder, Library, Applications folder etc.., and it will be easy to find when you choose individual sounds for system events. To avoid monotony, try putting similar sounds in folders inside your favorite sound folder, and you can even select those FOLDERS to randomly play any sound in it for system events.

Thanks for a fantastic program!

LEO SPILL  While it may not be rocket science to configure - the instructions are very sparse and could be confusing or near impossible for a newbie to work out. Dragthing ($29) has this same sound functionality as well as being an interesting app launcher taking up your CPU cycles. But this is a one trick pony and can after only a limited time become annoying both taking up your precious CPU cycles and hearing those repetive sound files. If you can spend the time setting the unfriendly GUI and find the right sound files that amuse without becoming repetivie then this is a fun toy to have in your arsenal. XSounds ( $10 ) by Unsanity is also a good choice but you have to run the APE plugin in order to run it.
