EDITOR NOTES

Note — Although the listing indicates that this is v.5.2, this release is v.5.2.2.

The Download Now link yields the Intel version. See Related Links below for a link to the PPC version.

DESCRIPTION
Komodo Edit is a free, multi-language editor that makes it easy to write quality code.

Focus on what your code can do; let your editor sweat the details.

Award-winning editing for dynamic languages including Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby and Tcl; plus support for browser-side code including JavaScript, CSS, HTML and XML.

Background syntax checking and syntax coloring catch errors immediately, while AutoComplete and CallTips guide you as you write.

MAESTROJAL  I've used TextWrangler for a very long time for web design. It's a solid program. However, I'm always looking for an editor with more. Komodo Edit not only shows syntax coloring but also lets me adjust color schemes, check syntax on the fly, show matching braces, autocomplete common tags, automatically add online files to my project (makes changes without using a separate FTP program), multi-file find and replace, and has an open plug-in architecture for third-party additions. I really don't believe this is a Java app as it's based on the Mozilla architecture (could be wrong). It's responsive enough on my MBP 2.0 GHz. Best of all, it's free.

GERMANO60  To be honest, also TextWrangler supports multi-file find and replace and integrated operation on remote files, without any additional FTP program :)

TICE  OK, it's a Java app. That would be nice to have for info berfore download. Java apps are allways to slow in their performance for me, sorry, but I like the idea behind it.

To uninstall don't forget the 21MB folder in Application Support..

IFFY  Wrong. This is not a Java app... From the website, "..based on XUL, XBL, and XPCOM, plus our own for Python and JavaScript." In other words, it's based on the same technology as Mozilla and Firefox and written in Python and JavaScript.

It's a promising tool that gets better with every release...

XSMURF  I'm not a big fan of the editor to be honest, it's hard to beat TextMate. But the php remote debugging (with xdebug) in the IDE is very neat.
