WEB-JIVE  Tried that. No response.. NADA.. So I just cancelled my account. To bad because I would pay for this service if I thought it worked.

What kills me is I worked for ALLTEL for a decade and my wife still works for them (in then engineering division) and the engineers we talked with have no explanation as to why this doesn't work. They are not doing anything to block this service either. Not good when you can't get it to work with the 4th largest carrier in the U.S.

WEB-JIVE  P.S. The instructions you post for ALLTEL are incorrect and do not work.

BRAMR  I am a Product Manager at CallWave.

Our visual voicemail widget works with US cell numbers only at this time.

re: DOBES. I think you are referring to the SMS widget: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/19064

Our SMS widget works in many countries. We are working hard to make a valuable service available to as many users as possible. I apologize that we don't serve your country at this time. As stated in our FAQ we're working hard to expand coverage:

    Where can I send from?

Due to overwhelming demand we've had to limit our free SMS Beta to a smaller number of countries (see FAQ). We're working hard to expand our beta to other countries, and hope to have a solution by mid February. Thanks for your continued support, and stay tuned for more information.

DOBES  Really awful. Worked for 2 or 3 days, locally, then announced the beta trial was over due to high demand. Obviously NOT a free service, don't even try it. Gross misrepresentation, SHAME ON THIS COMPANY.

ROBBCHADWICK  Before you download and activate this, be sure you want it. Basically, they hijack your voicemail. You have to sign up with them. They give you some numbers to punch in on your mobile phone. At that point, they have forwarded all your unanswered calls to them; and your voicemail with your service provider is by-passed. Naturally this is a ploy to attempt to sell you their premium service. THEN, once you realize what has happened and try to cancel the service, they give you instructions on reversing what they did; but it doesn't work. It was a lot of work to get someone at Verizon to put my voicemail back to normal; and I'm not even sure things are back to normal because a recording at Verizon tells me that my port was successful. Obviously, I did not want a port. Therefore, beware and be careful of this. They do not tell you anything about what they are doing before they do it.

BRAMR  I'm a Product Manager at CallWave.

robbchadwick: Sorry to hear that you had trouble deactivating your Verizon forwarding. I'd be happy to help you with that. Please contact me at care-v2w(at)callwave(dot)com.

For the record, please note that our Visual Voicemail widget shows both activation and deactivation instructions. The Learn More, which is available from the registration screen, explains how it works, and what activation codes are.

We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve our products.

ROBBCHADWICK  I have now solved the issue with Verizon, so my voicemail is back to normal.

Your de-activation codes do not work with Verizon; and I believe you know that or at least you know there may be an issue since you do advise to call them if you can't get the de-activation codes to work. This info only came once I started the cancellation process with you. Perhaps it's buried somewhere; but the folks here and on Version Tracker are usually early adopters. We don't always read the tech notes.

My point is that I'm sure your widget is nice; but I would only want to use it occasionally. Most of the time I would want my voicemail from my mobile phone. Since you can't simply turn it on & off, you should put a warning UP FRONT about what is going to happen before you entice people to download this widget.

BRAMR  I'm sorry that the Verizon deactivation code did not work for you. Verizon's deactivation instructions come straight from this Verizon Wireless website: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/HowToControllerServlet?path=featureDetail&path=featureDetail&featureId=1974

(you have to enter your zip code)

I'd like to find out why it didn't work so that we can improve our instructions. Please contact me at care-v2w(at)callwave(dot)com so that I can troubleshoot your situation.

As for your comment on being upfront, note that the widget Learn More link explains how it works, and what activation codes are. Deactivation codes are also available at all times in the widget preferences.

Lastly, note that you can still access your messages by phone when using CallWave. Just call your own cell number from your cell.

TERESA.WHEELER  This is just to clarify the deactivation code issue with Verizon.

CallWave works with the No Answer/Busy Transfer feature offered by many carriers. The code to cancel it on the Verizon network apparently varies depending upon which of their markets you're in. *73 to cancel all forwarding (which is how CallWave works) is straight off the VZW web site, however it did not work for me. I am in Atlanta.

I found *710, among other codes, at Howard Forums, and it did the trick (none of the others listed worked for me). There was a note on the posting (dated from January of 2007) stating that *710, *720 and *730 were being phased out and that *73 was the replacement.

    SCHMELDING  "Connecting..."

That's all it says. Doesn't work.

Also, I don't think it's clear in the documentation how it works. Is Callwave forwarding my voicemail to another number? Are they listing to my voicemail? Not enough information, IMHO.

BRAMR  This is from the Learn More section (available from the registration screen on the widget):

    What are activation codes?

Dialing the activation code allows your phone to send unanswered calls to CallWave (so we can display a copy of your messages in your widget).

If you are not completely satisfied with CallWave, you can always go back to your old cell phone voicemail by dialing the deactivation code.

    How does it work?

If somebody calls you on your cell phone, and you don't answer, the call forwards to CallWave. CallWave records the message and shows it in your widget.

JONDESU  Looks like an awesome service/widget, but the activation instructions refuse to go away, even when I uncheck the box in the prefs. Any ideas?
