DESCRIPTION

MacFUSE is a FUSE-Compliant File System Implementation Mechanism for Mac OS X. MacFUSE implements a mechanism that makes it possible to implement a fully functional file system in a user-space program on Mac OS X (10.4 and above). It aims to be API-compliant with the FUSE (Filesystem in USErspace) mechanism that originated on Linux. Therefore, many existing FUSE file systems become readily usable on Mac OS X. The core of MacFUSE is in a dynamically loadable kernel extension.

How FUSE-compliant is MacFUSE? Well, enough so that many popular FUSE file systems can be easily compiled and work on Mac OS X--often out of the box. Examples of file systems that work have been tested (to varying degrees) include sshfs, ntfs-3g (read/write NTFS), ftpfs (read/write FTP), wdfs (WebDAV), cryptofs, encfs, bindfs, unionfs, beaglefs (yes, including the entire Beagle paraphernalia), and so on.

Now the first version of NTFS wrtiteable filesystem is available; it is called NTFS-3G (http://idisk.mac.com/shadowofged/Public/Software/NTFS-3G/NTFS-3G%201.0%20(Full).dmg).

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.7.1:
  • Bugfix: Fixed a kernel issue that could cause resource forks larger than 128KB to be truncated when accessed through the Finder.
  • Bugfix: Fixed a kernel issue where the file system could fail to "catch up" on a file's size when the size changed unbeknownst to MacFUSE (say, on a remote server.)
  • Fix: Changed a kernel policy that could prevent generation of certain fsevents. Although generally harmless in Leopard 10.5.2 and below, this could confuse higher layers of system software in 10.5.3. (The issue manifested as problematic file saves.)
  • Fix: 10.4: Fixed a compilation artifact issue where the MacFUSE 1.5 kernel extension could fail to load on PowerPC 10.4.x systems with an "unknown cmd field" error from kextload.
  • Fix: Packaging: The IFPkgFlagInstalledSize field is handled better in the package.
  • MacFUSE.framework Changes
    • Support for a position parameter in extended attributes delegate methods. The old methods are deprecated, although they will still be called (for now) if the file system does not implement the newer methods.

ZOFO  I wish the documentation was clearer..

I had to do a lot of digging around and found that to write NTFS you ALSO have to download a separate "plugin"

Find it here http://www.ntfs-3g.org/index.html#download  (Version 1.7.1)

ZOFO  Just installed the 1.7.1 version (never tried previous ones) and have 10.5.4

Tried attaching a friend's external 240GB usb NTFS formatted hard drive but I can't write anything to it

I don't see any prefs for MacFUSE or anything.. its supposed to be transparent, right?

    Help?  (Version 1.7.1)

BARQSX  After installing MacFUSE, my Macbook Pro fails to sleep when idle (eventhough my Energy Saver settings is set to sleep after a few minutes of idleness). After uninstalling MacFUSE, my Macbook Pro goes to sleep as normal! I'm running Leopard 10.5.2.

Interestingly, I tried Paragon NTFS (another program that allows you to read/write to NTFS formatted drives) and experienced the same problem.

Does anyone know how to fix this?  (Version 1.3.1)

GLOTOWLE  Hi everyone, I am new to the Mac. I just installed the Leopard and every time I open Windows XP with Parallels, I get this message:

    "Operating System Too Old

The installed MacFUSE version is too new for the operating system. Please downgrade your MacFUSE installation to one that is compatible with the currently operating System"

It has a button that says: "OK" I press it and it disappears. Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance,

    Glo  (Version 1.3.1)
