UTRUNN  I deal with audio a lot and I simply love Amadeus Pro. It has many great features ranging from scheduled recordings, saving directly to mp3, etc. (without needing to install codecs manually), gain control in the app (thus not needing to fiddle in System Prefs), useful effects, easy editing, and, of course, it looks great.

ZELOEISTOTHEO  I'm absolutely loving this product. I've been using it actively for about a month now. It's powerful, simple to use, has a very decent interface, and I receive great support. Don't let the simplicity of this app misguide you... it can do a lot!

There were two reasons/tools I purchased Amadeus Pro for: 1.) The batch processor 2.) The "Join" functionality. Both have been indispensable. Really great value for the money, saving me hours of processing time. I looked at a competing batch processing tool called Sound Grinder Pro, the "Pro" version was necessary for cropping. However, after using both tools I found Amadeus was significantly cheaper, more capable, easier to use, and provided better results than Sound Grinder Pro. I highly recommend this great software!

AKANICO  not liking the ui doesn't make it a bad software while loving the wave editor one doesn't make it better than amadeus.

talk about specific technical needs you have then how wave editor or amadeus seems better, according to you.

an keeping in mind it's half less expensive.

here, you sound like developer's friend spreading propaganda.

not worth using even if it was free ?

please....

GITTEBOY  I just don't like it. The interface is plain ugly and not very user friendly. Even if it was free it is not worth using it.

I can highly recommend Wave Editor. By far the best of the bunch.

ESPIRIDION  I decided to try this based on YOSHINATSU's 5-star reviews and negative comments about Wave Editor.

Details of my brief comparison with Wave Editor are on the Wave Editor page.

For my needs Amadeus Pro still has a long way to go, and it uses more CPU and memory than Wave Editor.

At the same time, Amadeus Pro seems to offer quite a bit for the relatively low price of $40. My advice is to give each program a try, and include Audacity and Twisted Wave as well.

From what I recall Twisted Wave's pitch/time features were quite good. It uses DIRAC Time Stretch/Pitch Shift. Wave Editor uses iZotope SonicFit. I don't know if Amadeus uses AUPitch, but I tried it briefly and the resulting file had awful pops. I've read of other people experiencing the same issue with AUPitch. There's also an unanswered question in their forum, from 2008:

"The numbers on the Pitch slider indicate what exactly? Cents, semi tones, or what unit?"

I had the same question as the person who posted this. IMO a more useful indicator is cents or intervals, like used in Wave Editor.

I'm staying with Wave Editor, but depending on your needs and usage Amadeus may be a good deal at $40.

AKANICO  Great app I bought way back, fast and easy to play with. Only two points though.

id3 tags editing is very limited to its minimum, could really use the possibility to edit fields like composer, encoder, discs, grouping (...) all id3v2 infos basically.

And when saving a track, over writing it, the bit rat should remains the same as the source one and not automatically using the last presets defined for the previous file.

Other than that, no weird behavior, no crash, just solid.

YOSHINATSU  I've using Sound Studio from the moment I got my Mac, about two years ago, and I have to say I was really really pleased with it, and with it's overall performance and stability. Sound Studio is QUALITY software and it's really really easy to use.

But then I gave a shot to Amadeus Pro.

The sole conclusion? Amadeus can do SO much more than Sound Studio for SO much less.

Also, it much more frequently updated than Sound Studio... their last update was August, it's been almost a year since then, while Amadeus updated their app in March.

Highly recommended, highly reliable, can export to many formats, can use both VST's and AU's and in the end, it's the perfect wave editor for OS X. Get it now!

DICK - FLUTEFLIGHTS.COM  It's not often I run into an application that works as well, or is as feature-rich, as Amadeus Pro. I've been using Amadeus for many years, and I've watched it grow into a full-blown, professional-quality audio editor. I'm a musician, not a sound engineer, so I need a software editor that's intuitive to use. Amadeus Pro is very intuitive. That said, no matter how well written a program might be, we will eventually have questions—especially when we start exploring program features. Recently, I emailed Martin Hairer, the developer, and he got back to me immediately with the solution to my problem. That level of customer support adds great value to the software.

This program has a powerful Noise Suppression feature that's worth mentioning for those of us who can't afford recording studio time. With just a mouse click you can kill those ambient sounds like traffic, police sirens, the refrigerator running, etc.—unwanted background noises that, if left there, will reduce the clarity of the recording. Just make the recordings in your house or apartment, then zap out unwanted background sounds for a clean and very professional sound. Good bye running frig!

I have tried other audio editors over the years. Amadeus Pro blows them all down. One could say that for the price, Amadeus Pro can't be beat. But I say that Amadeus Pro can't be beat, REGARDLESS OF PRICE. If you're looking for a real audio editor with features that many other editors don't even have, Amadeus Pro is your app. Although it would be nice if the included PDF manual would be dumbed down a bit for those of us who know our music but not necessarily our waveforms, I enthusiastically give this app 5 out of 5 stars! It really is that good.

MAHER  I found that the audio plugin in Library/Audio/Plug-ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin crashes Amadeus Pro as soon as it starts. Any idea to resolve that issue without removing the faulty plug-ins

MARTIN HAIRER  This is a well-known issue and comes from a bug in this plug-in under Snow Leopard (it works fine under Leopard or Tiger). The only solution at the moment is to remove the faulty plug-in.

REOWEN  I primarily use Amadeus Pro to turn long files (field recordings, tapes, records) into mp3 or aac files to play in iTunes. As such it has some very nice features and some maddening shortcomings. Things I like include:

- Stable

- Fairly powerful (it has a lot more editing features than I need)

- It is fairly easy to insert and name markers

- One can have multiple sound files open (unlike, say, Fission)

- Fairly straightforward and easy to use

The main things I don't like are:

- It can split a file according to named markers, but the marker names don't end up in the mp3/aac tags (metadata). As a result, iTunes has no idea what the tracks should be called or what order they should be played in. It is a big hassle to correct this information when Amadeus should be capable of setting it as it creates the files. This drives me nuts. I'm trying Fission (even though it is much more limited) because it seems to get this right.

- It is rather slow at file I/O -- especially encoding mp3 files and saving ones changes.

- It is not a lossless editor.

- There is no way that I've found to replace the selection with an identical-length bit (background noise) from another part of the sound

MARTIN HAIRER  Hi, the first improvement that you suggest is available as a hidden preference. Type

defaults write com.HairerSoft.AmadeusPro HSNameTracks 1

in the terminal to turn it on. Regarding the speed of file savings, it can be improved by lowering the default quality of the LAME Mp3 encoding engine (its default quality is quite a bit higher than the default quality of iTunes's Mp3 encoding engine).

REOWEN  Martin Hairer's tip worked perfectly (at least for mp3 files; I didn't test it for aac yet)! This is wonderful. It will save me many hours of frustration and pointless metadata editing. It would be a useful ordinary (non-hidden) preference. My other complaints are minor in comparison and with this preference set, I consider Amadeus a 5 star application.
