MACGUY_81  Amadeus continues to impress me. A really well-put-together, solid sound editor. Highly recommended.

CLOAKNDAGUERRE  Wow! As a photographer who edits a lot of audio for blogs and audio slide shows, this is a Godsend. Working in the newspaper industry, with deadlines and the frequent pressures of working in the front seat of a car or on the fly, Amadeus Pro is truly wonderful. It's powerful (sorry, Fission), stable (sorry, Audacity) and a real joy to use (sorry, GarageBand). The interface is elegant and intuitive, and the features, speed and capability of this app make it a steal for the money. I've given up my ProTools LE/Mbox dongle and all the other multi-track editing apps that lived in my dock for months. This is hands-down my favourite.

BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP... YEAH!  About 1 year ago I bought this app as a 'light-weight' option next to the more heavier Wave Editor & DSP-Quattro.

For the money ($40) you'll be buying a sound recorder/editor with an extremely good value:

- Very fast operation

- About as easy as it gets

- Supports a wide range of audio formats

- Click repair is intuitive & functional

- Basic multi-track editing & recording

- VST & AU plug-in support

- Batch Processing

To my personal taste the software looks a bit too aqua-ish, but it's not really a problem. The GUI can be customized a bit, however it would be nice if the look & feel could be customized a bit more in a future version (f.e. color of the main window, button style...)

Some other options I've tried (Sound Studio, Audacity, etc) just don't do the job for me. Either they feel too unintuitive or there are too many functions missing.

Of course more specialized apps are available, but these are quite a bit more expensive:

- With Wave Editor ($79) you'll be getting pro-options like DDP import/export, iZotope 64-bit DSP, conversion & dither, customizable shortcuts

- With DSP-Quattro ($199) you'll get an unrivaled smooth editing experience, pro conversion, redbook cd-burning etc...

To most people who're asking me for advise what editor to use on the mac however, I'll recommend Amadeus Pro. It's the audio editor who'll do the job for most of us!

(If still doubting, just run the demo and see for yourself.)

EASER  I grew up with the old SoundEdit 16, and I like AP's interface precisely because it is reminiscent of that program. Indeed, one of my biggest panics when moving from Classic to OS X was what I would use for sound editing. AP is my top choice. I don't do any kind of professional work, but I do a lot of tinkering with songs for personal pleasure; so sound quality is still very high on my priority list. AP has never let me down.

ATTICUS X  This has become the IDEAL application for simple audio editing and converting sound files. In addition to its standard editing and recording functionality, Amadeus Pro lets you apply custom fades, add a variety of effects (including most VST and Audio Unit effects), insert text markers for your own reference, analyze and change various characteristics of your audio (bit rate, stereo/mono, etc), and a lot more. The batch processor saves time when you're performing the same operation(s) on many audio files. In fact, the whole interface is designed for efficiency: elegant, intuitive, streamlined... and very stable. For advanced multitrack editing you may prefer to use a more advanced multitrack editor (e.g., Logic, Ableton Live, Pro Tools), but for most everyday editing, I find Amadeus preferable. The developer is active and responsive to queries. The manual (accessible from the Help menu) is thorough and simple to understand. When troubleshooting becomes necessary, the user forum on the developer's website can be a great help. Amadeus is more than worth the low price and is altogether an essential piece of software for anyone that edits audio on a Mac.

ISTRA  When I came to know Amadeus, it didn't take me longer than a few hours to decide (and buy immediately) this application.

I can't recall it crashing -except a short period when I was tweaking my system; but then every appl. on my mac did the same...

I've been working with it for many months and it's so intuitive, fast and obedient that I don't think I'll ever need to change for another application.

Amadeus Pro is an ideal tool for what I'm doing (classical music, vocal and instrumental, and recited literary texts).

My feeling is that I can totally concentrate on the artistic content and the esthetic side of things, than have to fight with the overblown software of today. This is real efficiency!

The maker is also very responsive to questions and it seems he's *personally* working on the software. Just call it trustworthy :-)

And to talk about the price? Come on guys!!!!!

JPANDREWS  Found that I could no longer open .wma files immediately after upgrading to 1.4.4. If that function is important to you, perhaps you should wait to see if it's a problem with 1.4.4 (as opposed to some unique anomaly with my system).

JPANDREWS  A new build of version 1.4.4 available for download from the hairersoft.com website as of Tuesday afternoon ET 27 October has corrected this problem. Martin Hairer and Amadeus Pro are the best!

BMEEKS24  I like the features - and it does EXACTLY what I needed. I wanted something that would record church sermons and music ministry - and allow me to set markers for tracks and click one button to split and create complete MP3 files.

The cost is perfect too!

Now the one major con - and it is huge in my opinion.

Who the @#**^%* came up with the key shortcuts?

Zoom in and our CMD G?

Zoom to selection CMD J?

Marker insert is SHIFT CMD M - not CMD M as one would think - but if you do inadvertently hit CMD M - then you will minimize the window.

A minor con - the preview wav at the top of the screen doesnt show playhead position - but it is helpful when zoomed in.

But overall - this is a great application and I will probably buy it. But I must say that for double the money - Sound Studio is also very clean and does a great job, but it also has it's cons - mainly (as stated) it costs twice as much! But the controls are a bit more intuitive.

SJK  Apple considers Command-M a recommended Minimize shortcut:

• Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts

• Keyboard Shortcuts Quick Reference

ANONYMOUS  Zoom in / out is also just +/- and creating a marker is just 'm', which I think is as intuitive as it gets ;-) Note also that:

- There is a list of available shortcuts in the manual.

- The shortcuts of menu items can be fully customised in the system preferences.

BMEEKS24  Funny - you are right, I was looking at the shortcuts as listed in the menu bar - but +/- and m all work. I am a man's man - so I don't read manuals!!! Maybe a good time to start once i get the egg off my face! I also learned how to make custom shortcuts and made it how I like it - so this is really a great title.

BMEEKS24  Still loving this one. I use it twice a week at church. It is awesome.

Now my only con is that I wish it had a better input meter. I am trying ProLevel, but the hooks needed to make it work make it a cumbersome mess - I would love to see that sort of input level meter on the app - one that has RMS and peak hold. I keep having trouble getting a good loud recording - it will sometimes be either too low or peaked out. I am usually recording myself live and cannot monitor the whole time.

Something even cooler would be a real-time software volume monitor at the input, like Garageband - like a personal engineer riding the fader.

It is still just the coolest performance recorder on the market. Get it!!!!

NICK NIGHTINGALE  Whaouu!

The beautiful wave form of a professionnal Sadie4 software with an interface I think better than Peak.

And the price is low.

I think: perfect!

only one little problem:when we enlarge the selection during playback, the playback stop on the last end and not at the new end of selection...but in general I think this soft is more ergonomic, simple, more beautiful and more good karma than peak.

AMADEUS PRO= 9,8/10

P.S. In my personnal selection:

The number 2 is Fission of Rogue (not bad, under const I think ;)

good interface but the cut mode is too bad.

Peak?Euh...have you see the price?
