WYMAN13  Why no comments or reviews, positive or negative, about this software for over 2 years? I find that odd. Thoughts?

AREITOSOFT  iOvulate Calculator is not a charting program. BBT and FAM charting are no covered by this program.

We at AreitoSoft are working on a solution that cover those two methods.

Thank you all for your comments and support.

CKDAVIS  So you know... "iovulate" is being marketed under the "rhythm method" on different web pages. Everyone in the medical profession, as well as those couples who are practicing fertility awareness, know that the rhythm method is completely obsolete, out of date, and doesn't work. If you are going to market a product to an informed group of people, you have to get your facts straight! Even if you mean "fertility awareness method," saying "rhythm method" doesn't mean the same thing!

TEXASSTAR7  I've used a number of fertility and ttc software. This is a terrible one. Don't bother. It does nothing that you can't do online in less than two minutes. It doesn't even chart your BBT. Don't bother!

MDMUNOZ  I'm not an expert on the subject, but for those willing to do some research of their own, The New England Journal of Medicine says the Shettles method is bunk:

"for practical purposes, the timing of sexual intercourse in relation to ovulation has no influence on the sex of the baby."

DOMBETT  Yeah, basic biology says that if you have sex within the 6 days of ovulation you have a chance of getting pregnant so that's how they determine that timing. That's obviously not a guarantee; more like a broad range of abstinence.

But take what the developers themselves say about the product. They're not marketing it as birth control despite the "avoid pregnancy" warning. So dinging them as ineffective birth control seems off target.

AREITOSOFT  You are absolutely right, Dombett, it's aimed to the "looking to conceive" market.

DOMBETT  Since the developer said the app was intended to help someone get pregnant, criticizing it as a bad form of birth control seems to miss the point.

While it's no substitute for other more scientifically accurate methods of determining fertility, I can see this being an aid for the couple who do not have any known physical problems getting pregnant but just want to keep track of the woman's cycles.

MDMUNOZ  Does anyone else find the claim of determining the gender of the child based on the time of the month a little ridiculous?

Also, the rhythm method is a terrible form of birth control.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Yes, there's a name for people who use the rhythm method, they call them "parents". (Old joke)

MIKAELF  The comment about birth control is just stupid as the program is developed with the intention of HELPING with pregnancy.

MDMUNOZ  Actually, it has several settings, one of which is birth control.

It's in the screenshot and on the website. I don't understand how you could have possibly missed it.

AREITOSOFT  The gender selection calculation is based on the Shettles Method which is based on the premise that sperm carrying the X and Y chromosomes have different characteristics and that you can influence the reproductive environment to favor one or the other.

It is the sperm that fertilizes the egg that will determine the sex of your baby. Some sperm carry the X-chromosome and some sperm carry the Y-chromosome. If an X-chromosome-carrying sperm fertilizes the egg, the baby will be a girl. If a Y-chromosome-carrying sperm fertilizes the egg, the baby will be a boy.

The idea behind the Shettles Method of sex selection is based on the premise that the X and Y chromosome carrying sperm have different characteristics and that under different circumstances either X- or Y-chromosome-carrying sperm will be more likely to fertilize the egg.

The Y-chromosome-carrying sperm are said to:

    * be faster and smaller than the X-chromosome carrying sperm.

    * die faster than the X-chromosome-carrying sperm.

The X-chromosome-carrying sperm are said to:

    * be slower than the Y-chromosome carrying sperm.

    * be better able to withstand the acidic cervical environment before fertile cervical fluid is produced.
