EDITOR NOTES
Some users are experiencing stability issues with MagiCal under Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) when attempting to access the preferences. We are working on a solution to this problem, and a fix will be released as soon as possible. In the meantime, Leopard users may wish to revert to the 1.1 alpha release, available in the "Related Downloads" section.
DESCRIPTION
MagiCal is a menu-based clock and calendar. It features a huge range of configuration options for how the time and date are displayed, and can operate either in addition to, or instead of, the built in system menu clock.
In addition to this, MagiCal features a handy drop-down calendar that can be torn off and placed anywhere on screen.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.1:
- Fixed crash when opening preferences on Leopard. Sorry it took so long!
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.3 or later.

ERIC WOEHLER Discovered a delightful feature that is undocumented - open the preferences for date and edit the selection - so you can include/exclude items as you wish - so eg, my date shows as Tue 01 Apr, without the year and the day name shortened from Tuesday. Edit works in real time so you can see how the edit will look in yr menu bar. I have no reason to believe the time format can be edited similarly to suit yr personal wishes. (Version 1.1r1)

SOPHOTECH It's not *entirely* undocumented - it is mentioned in the FAQ page, although admittedly most users never see that :-) Check out the formats page on the site for tips on how to use this feature: http://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/magical/formats (Version 1.1r1)

RUFFNRUGGD Thank you for finding a fix for this! I had missed MagiCal so much and hated not being able to get to Preferences, but now it works like a charm and I have my clock back! THANKS! (Version 1.1r1)

VERYCARLA It seems to launch OK in 10.5.2, but when I try to look at the preferences it crashes. Anyone else see this behaviour? (Version 1.1)

DRDUL Yes. It crashes and dies under 10.5.2 when "Preferences" is selected from the menu, which means that there's no way to change the prefs on a fresh install. But interestingly, if it was installed previously, it displays correctly, but still no way to change the prefs (I copied the com.charcoaldesign.magical.plist file from another computer). DOUGWARD Did exactly what I wanted to. My only issue is that when I have it just displaying the time, with the sub-pixel anti-aliasing turned off, it's very particular about where I click on it. I have to be careful to click the numbers of the time exactly or the menu doesn't show. Not a big thing, really. (Version 1.1)

LEO SPILL MagiCal 1.1a8. is 4 seconds slow ! When the system preference is set to 'set date and time automatically' MagiCal is four seconds out from the right time. This is a huge bug and users who need an exact time from their system clock shouldn't use this Alpha. (Version 1.1a8)

DEMOSTHENES I'll investigate this issue, although that has not been my experience when using MagiCal (I keep the system clock in the menu bar alongside MagiCal for comparison). In future please file bug reports using the integrated reporting system. I check those reports a lot more frequently than the MacUpdate comments. (Version 1.1a8)

XSMURF I love MagiCal ^.^ But PLEASE either fix the auto updates or make a bigger release, say, every week? Or better yet, both ;) This is getting quiet annoying, I'm just not updating anymore, even when I see them updates. But yeah, don't get me wrong, progress is always good, the only thing I'm bitching about is distribution. Keep up the great work ^.^ (Version 1.1a8)

DEMOSTHENES My general policy is to fix bugs as quickly as possible after they are reported. It just so happens that there have been a lot of bugs reported over the last few days. I don't expect that there will be any more updates for a while now, as most of the urgent issues seem to have been resolved. I strongly recommend that you update to 1.1a8, which is relatively stable. Versions prior to 1.1a7 don't actually tell the time correctly! (Version 1.1a8)

TRONDAH Wow, there seems to be a new version of magical every day, how much work can be done on a clock? :) No criticism though! Just funny :) (Version 1.1a7)

DEMOSTHENES A better question would be "how many bugs can there be in a clock?". Lots, apparently ;-) (Version 1.1a7)

BRUCE WISZ I have changed the system font to 15 point. Upon restart it returns to 11 point. Also, after the first startup I can't access the "i" to change preferences. (Version 1.1a3)

MACUPDATE ADMIN You might try deleting the MagiCal .plist file. It is named: com.charcoaldesign.magical.plist (Version 1.1a3)
