DESCRIPTION
Drive-in is an innovative application that allows you to store your personal DVD movie library on your Mac. It is now available as a public beta.

Using Drive-in you can create an image of a DVD disc on your laptop or home entertainment system. The image preserves the quality, navigation and special features of the original DVD and can be played using Apple's DVD Player or Front Row.

Drive-in preserves the DVD's original content protection. Drive-in allows you to play your images on any computer that you own but does not allow you to share your images with others.

To simplify the way you search and access your videos, we've added some helpful information like the DVD cover art, names of actors, movie description, etc. Once you've stored movies to your hard drive - just browse, select and play!

Drive-in is a great tool for:

  • Laptop owners who like to watch movies on the go
  • DVD collectors with a home theater system
  • Families who often misplace or damage DVDs

  • This public beta will expire on August 1, 2008.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the IODVDImage kernel extension from loading on some PowerPC computers running MacOS X 10.4.11.

AT  I thought this app was dead already. I actually like this app. With this, I can create a cheap-man version of the Kaleidescape system. But both Kaleidescape and Drive-In are region code specific. If Drive-In supports multiple region codes, I don't mind paying more for the software. The region codes thingy is a stupid concept and should be abolished altogether. Another worrying thing for me is, if Flip4Mac folds, I will have a headache in future if Apple decides to change something in its future OSes. Then we are all f***.  (Version 1.0.0.62)

ZEPHYRIS  Why do you need to enter the bar code number from the dvd disc just to download Info from Amazon? Shouldn't the disc information be auto fetched to begin with? This is pain staking and a waste of time. To catalog dvd's this wouldn't be my number one application.  (Version 1.0.0.59)

VANDAL  This is the type of app I've been looking for for a while. It's nice to have perfect quality one for one copies of my favorites right on my hard drive when I travel, and the "DVD cases" are a nice touch. Although the images take up a good bit of space, I keep my main library on a backup drive and rotate images on my Macbook before I leave for a trip, or simply take the drive with me. It suits my personal needs perfectly and I'll defnitely be purchasing this app when it comes out of beta.

As an aside, for those who complain about no compression or removing encryption, read the description. There are no surprises here, and it does exactly what it says. Granted MTR is free, but it doesn't work with all DVDs and these days you have to jump through hoops to acquire the latest version.  (Version 1.0.0.57)

GMINATO  I picked out two DVDs, and couldn't get either converted to DVD.

The first, "Edgeplay - The Runaways Movie" was found in the Amazon database (which is where I brought it) but DriveIn complained about not being able to do something to the CSS, the second, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 2 Disc Deluxe Edition" wasn't found in the database, must be because it is a Region 4 disc ...

Maybe I'll try again later ... maybe I won't, maybe I'll give the other apps suggested a go instead.  (Version 1.0.0.57)
