DESCRIPTION
JustLooking is designed to be used instead of the Preview application on your computer for browsing most image file formats. In particular, it has the following differences:

  • It focuses on files and directories instead of lists of files. Thus, once you load a file, you can easily navigate through all other files in the same directory.
  • It displays images at their native resolution instead of interpreting DPI information stored in the image meta-data. While images are printed at the maximum resolution possible, on screen they are displayed pixel-by-pixel.
  • Being designed more for viewing of Images, it properly shows animated GIF files.
  • The entire program can easily be manipulated and powered by simple keystrokes for a quick and pleasant viewing experience.
  • There is support for printing, image resizing, saving to a few key image formats, and displaying of all image info.

RICHCASTILLO  Not so useful for me. Would not read a Photoshop .pdf file even though it is really a raster image. Would not read an Illustrator file or an .eps. Preview will easily work on raster or vector formats so it impossible for this app to replace Preview in my workflow.

DONG-YOUNG  wow this app is without a doubt, much better than the default Preview. It would be perfect if it included a hand tool for dragging larger images. Other than that, thanks for your great work!

XENOPHILE  Agree on the need for a hand tool to scroll large images.

Include this and fill out some of the other features, and this could replace Preview for me. Skim has mastered PDF viewing on Mac OS X, so IMO JustLooking should continue to focus on all other images, and match/exceed Preview's feature set. It's almost there, all it needs are a few features like the hand tool, a few tweaks here and there, and at least one killer feature or GUI innovation that blows Preview away.

NATTHULHU  This is a pretty handy app, but I gotta take issue with the inability to view sequential images correctly (10,11,12 come between 1 & 2).

MTFLY  Outstanding app. This is the best viewer I've found for the mac so far. When you don't need all the overhead of file management and use a separate editor, this app is perfect. Fast as well. Surprised it's free!

Beyond the edit capability to another program mentioned below I have two more suggestions:

1. some ability to sort the files other than by name, date modified, size, type and finder label.

2. Hot keys or some other mechanism to move files to another folder quickly.

Great job, Thanks Marc

ROSENKRIEGER  Lightweight. Fast. Supreme compared to the normal Apple Preview if you simply want to quickly look at one or many pictures. Love it!

One thing missing ( maybe I just missed it ) is the ability to transfer a pic to lets say Apple Preview or Adobe Photoshop for editing. I know that "Just Looking" is for just looking ;-) - but once I looked at a pic I might want to edit/change something. It would be awesome to get some kind of option to take the current pic and "transfer" it to Apple Preview and/or favorite picture editor ( Photoshop for example )

Keep up the good work - it's appreciated!

JETFIREDX  Really nice. Dropping this one in with the rest of my image tools. Would it be possible to change JustLooking to use the black HUD window type for its windows? I think this would really unify its look, similar to PixelMator.

ZENZEN  JustLooking is now my main viewer on the Mac and I like it a lot. It's very fast and mostly intuitive.

I use a Macbook, which leads to two issues. First, the thick navigation bar cuts into the Macbook's meager vertical resolution. Any chance that the next update can include an option to shift the nav icons to the side or do away with them altogether (I use key commands mostly). Speaking of keys, the Macbook has no number keypad. This makes +/- zooming a little awkward. OK, - works; but why not allow zooming in by just pressing "=" as opposed to Shift-"=" (which is a "+").

Lastly, would it be possible to add a command to COPY the currently viewed image? Using Irfanview in XP, I love just hitting Ctrl-C on the currently viewed picture then pasting it as a layer in Photoshop. With JustLooking, I have to hunt down the file in folder and open it seperately in Photoshop.

Thanks for a great app! If I got any of the above wrong, it's due to my laziness and/or dumbassity.

MACLOVER1.1  This app would be really great if it remembered which file types I want and do not want it to open... for some reason it keeps on defaulting back to taking ownership of ALL image types... as if the preference box did not work... so for now it's going to the trash as I NEVER want it to open my huge PSD files. If this preference stuff worked as it should I'd love this app.
