DESCRIPTION
Paperless... Formerly ReceiptWallet, the newly-rebranded Paperless allows you to scan in and manage your receipts and documents. When you scan in each receipt or document, you enter a few pieces of information about it and then you can quickly and easily locate your receipts and documents. With Paperless, you can view the receipts right on the screen, print them, email them, or save them as PDFs. In addition to the powerful search built into Paperless, you can organize your receipts and documents into collections. These collections can contain whatever you want and even better than that is the ability to create smart collections that automatically create collections based on whatever criteria you like. A plethora of Paperless.
Many products on the market today are one trick ponies. They can accomplish one objective and then its usefulness ends. Paperless is much more than a one trick pony...call it a stable of stallions.
Prepare expense reports
Do you have to prepare expense reports? If so, Paperless can help. Once you store your receipts in Paperless, you can select the receipts to email, print, or export to PDF.
Painlessly handle taxes and accounting
In many cases, the IRS (or other tax authority) may accept electronic copies of your receipts. Paperless makes gathering information for taxes a snap!
Manage flexible spending
Do you have a flexible spending plan or a cafeteria plan at work? If so, then you know how much of a pain it is to gather up all the paperwork when the time comes to submit the receipts. With Paperless, put items into a category called Medical or Flexible Spending, then create a smart collection for the time period, say the last six months. Next select the receipts, hit print and you've now handled most of the work already. If your plan accepts it, you can even export the text content of your receipts as a CSV file and import it into Microsoft Excel; you can print this and might be able to simply submit it.
Store owner's manuals
Are you finding that most owner's manuals these days come as PDFs and are either on the manufacturer's website or on a CD? Can you ever locate the information when you need it? Simply add these manuals to a Paperless library and they're accessible with a few quick keystrokes.
Access legal documents
If you're a lawyer or anyone that has lots of documents about various cases or topics, Paperless can help you organize. Many lawyers are moving from the massive amounts of paper they generate to electronic storage. This is economical and easy to do. Combine Paperless with a fast scanner such as the Fujitsu ScanSnap and paper can virtually be eliminated.
Be ready in case of a disaster
While we all hate to think what could happen in a disaster, recovering from one can be a trying experience. If you prepare ahead of time and put all your important documents into Paperless before the disaster, recovery is just a little easier.
And more... There is no limit to what you can do with Paperless!
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later (10.5.4 or later); TWAIN compliant scanner or Fujitsu ScanSnap, Pentax DS Mobile scanner (recommended).

DOMINIQUE PERETTI Paperless is only application to address a simple issue : to properly archive snail mail. Other applications just don't get you need for that purpose : an author, a title, a date, a category... Surprisingly you cannot do that with Devon or Yep. Sadly, Paperless has SEVERE bugs which prevent you from properly update a title or a field because of a totally flawed auto-completion. (What you type is replaced on-the-fly with previous entries)... RNETTER Paperless launches very slow on my Intel Mac. It takes at least 2 to 3 minutes to launch and an other 30 seconds to analyses the pdf. When I print a receipt to a pdf paperless is not launching so I have to do it twice: The frist time it launches paperless and the second time it starts processing the receipt. All of this makes Paperless useless for me. I liked ReceiptWallet but it over time it had the same problems and they did get fixed when RW become Paperless. Mariner Software managed to destroy a lot of software which starts out free or cheap with an enthusiastic developer but then when Mariner Software takes over and the software slowly seems to die or improve less. So don't buy this software. I wish Devonthink would analyses my receipts then DT would be the way to go for me. (Version 1.0)

DONTIB Awesome program. I am truly getting a mostly paperless environment. Easy to use and powerful. You can scan with a single pass or multiple pass for multi page documents (the multi pages goes into one document and you select the page you want) I simply don't understand the bad reviews. The only problem I see is with having a scanner that directly works with the program .. fortunately I do (only one scanner works out of three that I have .. need Twain). But you do not have to scan directly into the program. This is a great program .. can't wait for an update. (Version 1.0)

PXLSMITH Fairly straightforward. Not sure if it's worth $45 tho. Glad I got it as part of the MU Bundle. (Version 1.0)

BS0D Wow, I just tried this today to see how it works - gave it the benefit of the doubt after my first try... Honestly, this is the worst rip-off of all time. If I could rate it 0, I would without any hesitation because it makes me so mad. I can hardly believe a developer would come up with such a useless application AND MAKE PEOPLE PAY the ridiculous price of $45 for it on top of that! It's basically a folder with jpeg files inside, except you access it through a nice little interface. Unbelievable. And does it really need to be as big as 11.6 Mo, cause I'm sure I could launch Xcode and make the same thing 2 or 3 Mo and free of charge. I'm soooo glad it was included in the bundle and this purchase was not voluntary (unfortunately it pains me to see that I still gave a bit of my money for this). Sure you don't have bundles of receipts in your closets anymore, but you still waste hours scanning them and (waste space on your hard drive), so good luck. (Version 1.0)

THEOTREO I thought I was doing something wrong until I realized that this app does nothing. It's just a viewer for some jpgs basically with a little calculator. No OCR. I thought it would do some work for you - but you have to enter EVERYTHING yourself. You could do that with a jpg folder and a xls file. So pretty useless as is... (Version 1.0)

LLONGLEY So far so good. Been using this since it's release. The reviews for Receipt Wallet were great and a friend had upgraded from receipt wallet and really liked this software so I thought I'd try it. I use it to organize more than 5000 PDF's that were floating around my computer both work and personal items. I now have all IRS documents (checked with the IRS and its OK), paperwork from our income property, insurance policies, medical records, etc organized, tagged and easy to locate. I settled on this because after months with Yep! I had some concerns about retaining the effort i had put into it. Devonthink Pro Office was over kill for my needs, had an extremely detailed and cumbersome learning curve and I did not like the interface at all (very un-Mac like). In addition I have used Yojimbo, SOHO Notes, together and on and on. I like the fact that my actual documents were not herded into a proprietary database (this program gives you the option to not move everything). Yep also does not move your data to a database but on more than one occasion I was unable to recover my metadata (and that was a lot of work lost). Not all programs are for everyone. However, the unhelpful flaming on a program that some people clearly do not understand and have never used is counter productive to what these reviews are intended to do. I say that some of the comments are from people who have not used the program as some of the comments are "off the wall". I appreciate reviews that alerts me to a bad developer, poor developer customer service and most of all poor software functionality but I can do without the pointless flaming. Not saying this is the end all of software and I may move on if it does not continue to meet my needs. With one freeze so far all is good. With regard to OCR, the program does do OCR on the receipt side but OCR has not been added to the PDF side yet. However, most of the competition does not do OCR either. Devonthink Pro Office does but for the $100+ difference between the price tags of the two it should. But as I said, so far so good. (Version 1.0)

It's fair enough, I understand you have found a use for it and if you're ready to invest $45 in this then good for you. I did get a little carried away in my review there, but I mean every single word I wrote. It is waaaay too expensive for what it does. And to correct what I said about the app's size, it's actually over 20Mo once installed: being a developper myself on my free time, I really don't see how you can make an app this big for doing so little! And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the developers of Paperless are bad ones, or that their customer service is bad (never had to contact them, and never will): just saying that they could use their programming skills for something more useful and most of all CHARGE LESS! NORIKER I don't understand what this application does. As far as I understood, it can't even do OCR, so it doesn't actually offer a digital form of your receipts, just stores jpgs. Why not just scan your jpgs and put them in a folder? (Version 1.0)

MTCOBRA This program doesn't quit. I mean that it doesn't QUIT when you tell your computer to Shut Down, and you forgot to Quit this program, Shut Down won't. You can't quit it from the Dock, only from the menu bar. Otherwise it does what it does as advertised. But I just don't trust a program that won't quit, so I discarded it totally. (Version 1.0)

UMIJIN Paperless isn't working for me on my G5 iMac. It finds my registration info from Receiptwallet then freezes. Hope others have better luck while I get Mariner to fix the problem. (Version 1.0)

CAPITALJ How long did you wait before giving up? Paperless took a long time to launch immediately after I updated from ReceiptWallet, but now it works fine. (Version 1.0)

UMIJIN Yes, you are correct. I found out after I rebooted the app the second time and walked out of the room. It would be nice if there was some dialogue box indicating that the app was importing or moving or whatever. Unfortunately, the new developer for the app hasn't bothered to give upgrade notes or suggestions for old RW users. (Version 1.0)
