DESCRIPTION
MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.7 addresses an issue reported by a small number of customers using drives based on the SATA 3Gbps specification with the June 2009 MacBook Pro. While this update allows drives to use transfer rates greater than 1.5Gbps, Apple has not qualified or offered these drives for Mac notebooks and their use is unsupported.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5.5, MacBook Pro.

BOOMER  Very curious. I installed this Firmware Update a couple of weeks ago. Wonder why it's showing up again?

BRIAN KENDIG  Before I installed this update, Windows Vista on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2007) would not realize that it was plugged in to wall power (the battery would charge, but Windows would behave as if it were running off the battery) until I unplugged the MagSafe power connector and plugged it back in again. After I installed the update, the computer successfully recognizes the power plug.

TOURNESOL  Installed fine and everything works fine after the update, but what it fixed I have absolutely no clue about. Safari seems snappier though ;)

JCRAIG  This update does not appear to be for 1G MBPs with Core Duo processors, as it does not show up in Software Update. There is no info on the Apple site to either confirm or deny this. I'm gonna wait and see if it does indeed appear later in SU.

PSYCHOS  Applied the update. After my system had been up for about half an hour, all sound output stopped working. Any application that tried to output sound would freeze and require a manual kill. Couldn't even get to the Sound prefpane. I tried restarting coreaudiod, no effect. I slept and unslept the machine, no effect. I eventually rebooted, and the problem resolved.

I have never seen this happen before this update, so I suspect it may be linked since it happened right after I updated. Has anyone else had odd audio freezes like this?

I did zap my PRAM after the firmware update.

ARTISTICSHOWCASE  This update is for non-Santa Rose chipset MacBook Pros. Those computers have the latest firmware and do not require upgrading.

REMMANUELLI  This Updater 1.2 is a mess. My MacBook Pro is unusable since installed. I' ve already used the restoration cd without any effect. After a week working every solution I'm stuck with system 10.4.6. If I upgrade to the next level the machine does not boot. Please Advise.
