EDITOR NOTES
This version requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later. See Related Links below for a link to the last version compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
DESCRIPTION
NetworkLocation... Setup locations to represent the different environments in your life. Customize your Mac to suit each location, and let NetworkLocation do the rest. Use actions to change system settings or set things in motion; launch applications or scripts, connect to servers, toggle Airport and Bluetooth power, and many more.

Step into a coffee shop and NetworkLocation goes to work. Using wifi, connected devices, ethernet and now the Wi-Fi Positioning System from Skyhook Wireless, it’s a sure thing. There’s no end to the number of configurations you can setup. You can even extend NetworkLocation with scripts, plugins, or write your own plugin with our free development kit.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.1.3:
  • Reduced the verbosity of the logs.
  • Fixed the screensaver settings action to no longer cause black screen for some users.
  • Fixed airport power action that wasn’t working for some users.
  • Connected device list no longer shows “(null)” entries.
  • Many more enhancements.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.6 or later.

CHIEFTED  I know what folks will say "There are free apps that do the same thing".

Free doesn't necessarily mean better.

I was using Marco Polo for awhile and well when going from my office location, to

my mobile location a couple of things where happening.

1. My macbook pro would kernel panic on ejecting mounted SMB drives

2. My macbook pro would, and this is after I stopped mounting the above drives

kernel panic when I would remove my external monitor.

Once I tried out NetworkLocation and removed Marco Polo, guess what, the kernel

panics stopped!

Yes I wrote the developer, got a big fat zero info from them, and even posted my

problem to the Marco Polo web group again a big fat zero.

I had a question about a setting with this piece of software and in less than 24 hours

I had and answer.

Ok now down to the nitty gritty. I have four different locations (work, home, mobile, friend) all with different default printers or no printer with the mobile location. This always

changes locations (since mostly I rely on wireless) and the Skyhook option for physical

location works like a champ.

It launches the programs I need and I love that it has Growl support.

Tech support is fast (usually within 24 hours).

I really do love this program and I have even bought a couple of extra software licenses for

friends/co-workers.

It ranks up there with the "must install after getting a new Mac" programs.

CUBITUS  I also have problems with 3.1.2 under SL. Now it won't quit unexpectedly (as 3.1 did) but I cannot edit auto-locate rules and some actions cannot be properly set.

JGALANTER  Trouble: 3.1 on Snow Leopard simple starts then aborts with a unhandled exception -- crashlog time.... Perhaps not quite ready for prime time.

MARKAUK  Works well as advertised. It's great to have settings change automatically depending on your location without having to think about it.

Initially I had a problem getting it to work, but the developer responded quickly and efficiently and the problem was resolved quickly.

Great app + friendly and responsive developer = worth every penny!

MGRIMES  The 3.0 situation has been cleared up by the developer. If you go to the store it's a $10 upgrade. The initial reaction was simple... nowhere is it mentioned that this is a paid upgrade - and without that information immediate it would cause any customer to fly off the handle.

MGRIMES  Not very cool to make 3.0 a paid upgrade, fail to mention it, make it cost more than 2.3 cost (no upgrade discount) and then provide no way to download the old version.

MGRIMES  http://networklocationapp.com/release/NetworkLocation_2.3.zip will get you 2.3 again... would love to hear the motivations behind the 3.0 debacle.

TJERJA  $25 for a missing feature in leopard??? that's one fifth of the total os price!... dgeezz., i bet apple will include this in the next upgrade anyway. How about lowering the price, or make it shareware instead?? ;-)
