DESCRIPTION

ZeusDraw is a drawing program with a fluid, graceful interface. It has a different, more intuitive approach to paths (Bezier curves) and great brushes. Quartz and Cocoa let ZeusDraw show you what you are doing, as you do it. When you move or rotate an object, you see the object move or rotate, not its bounding box. When you draw with a brush, you see a close approximation to the final brush stroke as you draw, not a dotted line that is filled in later.

Features:

  • Both vector brushes and textured, pixel-based brushes that remain objects that can be selected, edited (path and attributes), moved, scaled and rotated.
  • Easy to use path tools. Points are entered in order and can be edited at any time while the path is being created. When editing, all points are immediately editable - there is no confusing secondary selection tool.
  • Gradients can be edited live, in-place on the objects they fill.
  • Multi-Copy tool to place multiple copies along a line, an arc, a circle or a path.
  • No text boxes. ZeusDraw has in-place editing of text, even if it has been scaled sheared or rotated.
  • Construction and layout aids: Snap to Grid, Snap to Path, Snap to Point, Snap to Angle and automatic alignment guides.
  • By gesture or by the numbers. ZeusDraw allows precise setting of the size and position of objects.
  • Actual size viewing. With ZeusDraw 100% means 100%.
  • No size limits. If you're making a banner or a billboard, ZeusDraw will work for you.
  • E-mail artwork from within the program.
  • Color Picker. ZeusDraw adds a pane to the Color Picker to allow you to choose from a grid of closely related colors.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.3.1:

This is a free update for existing users. What's new in 1.3.1:

  • Assign Profile — You can now assign a new profile to a document. (Assigning a new profile leaves the color component values unchanged, but changes how they are intepreted.)
  • Match Document to Profile — This allows you to match your entire document to a new color space. For example, you can use this to convert an RGB document to CMYK or vice-versa.
  • Bug Fixes — This release fixes a number of minor bugs including the "inverted CMYK jpeg" issue on Leopard.
Version 1.3:

This is a free update for existing users. Version 1.3 adds these new features:

  • CMYK Color - Users can choose between the CMYK color model or the RGB color model for new documents.
  • Color Management - Users can set the profile (color space) for documents and control how imported images are matched to the document color space.
  • Full Layer System - ZeusDraw now has a complete layer system. Layers can be added, deleted, rearranged, made visible or invisible and locked or unlocked. ZeusDraw can also assign an opacity and a blend mode to each layer.
  • Bitmap Export in CMYK and grayscale - ZeusDraw can now export CMYK bitmaps (TIFF and JPEG) and grayscale bitmaps (TIFF, PNG and JPEG).
  • Object Opacities - ZeusDraw can now assign an opacity (degree of transparency) to individual objects and to groups.
  • Simplified Import - It is no longer necessary to specify in advance the type of file being imported and multiple files can be imported in a single step.
  • Vector PDF from the Print command - Print... > PDF > Save As PDF... now results in a vector PDF rather than a PDF wrapper around a bitmap. (Export > PDF... can still be used when a transparent background is required.)
  • Better Shadow Behavior - An object's shadow now falls on all the objects behind it. If there are objects that overlap but should not shadow each other, they can be grouped and a shadow can be applied to the group
  • Reorganized Preferences Dialog
Version 1.2.1:

A number of small internal changes to insure that ZeusDraw works properly on Leopard (OS X 10.5).

Version 1.2:

  • Editable PDF and PostScript - ZeusDraw 1.2 can convert most imported PDF, PS and EPS files into ZeusDraw objects. These objects can then be edited and modified like objects created directly in ZeusDraw. (PDF conversion requires 10.4 or later.)
  • Improved Print dialog - ZeusDraw's printing features are now more easily accessible. The new dialog also adds the ability to print only the selection and to scale the entire design or a selection so that it just fits the paper size.
  • German language localization
Version 1.1:
  • Blend Modes - ZeusDraw now supports Blend Modes. ;/li>
  • Improved Gradient Tool - You can now drag and drop colors directly to the gradient when editing gradients in place with the Gradient Tool.
  • Choice of Mail Programs - You can now use Eudora, MS Entourage, or the AOL mail application, as well as the Apple Mail program, to email artwork from within ZeusDraw.
  • Improved Export Sheets - When exporting or e-mailing you can now choose to export the selection, the page bounds, all the artwork or an area. When exporting the selection or all the artwork you can add a margin around them. The sheets now remember the last directory used.
  • Scroll Wheel Support - The scroll wheel scrolls your drawing vertically. Shift + scroll wheel scrolls horizontally.
  • Window Size - You can now set the initial window size for new drawings in the Preferences. Saved documents remember their window size.
  • Check for Update - ZeusDraw now uses Sparkle to check for updates. If a new update is available it will show you the release notes and, if you choose, install the update for you.
  • About Box - The About box now shows the version number and your registration number.

OLIPOWER  I've now tested it some more, and must say I think it is a very capable and impressive vector drawing app - it sure does pack a punch.

Nice to see developers thinking outside the box. Look at the ZeusDraw website for the screencasts - Zeus can do amazing stuff.

My girlfriend and I consider purchasing it - it a lot more approachable than Illustrator.  (Version 1.1)

****.

AMERGIN  Have only used it for a short time but it has a lovely smooth feel using my Graphire and Powerbook 1.67G4. The price, however, means that I won't even consider it. Shame, as it does do that one thing I am always searching for - realtime drawing/painting. All the other features I could do without - just leave the smooth drawing/painting and drop the price to $30 or so.  (Version 1.0.1)

OLIVERNIELSEN  Holy cow an optimistic pricing strategy for an app entering an already mature and healthy market, with apps such as EazyDraw, Lineform and Intaglio.

$90 - and they even state it's an introductory offer.

Discovering the price made me skip the download.  (Version 1.0)
