SubCleaner is able to clean an .srt subtitle removing common formatting errors. This is useful for hardware DivX players that require subtitle files without errors.
SubCleaner is also able to convert the following formats to SubRip (.srt) format:
LMP Very nice little app. It would be even more useful if it allowed the user to add custom search-and-replace functions. For example, find double spaces and replace with single space, or find certain accented characters and replace them with non-accented versions.
It would also be nice if the auto line splitting feature took dialog dashes into consideration. For example for the line "- Knock, knock. - Who's there?" it should split the line just before the second dash. (Version 1.0b5)
PETERSCHAUFUSS FIX: it seems that MacUpdate stripped the tags I was commenting about - they are the standard HTML tags for italic text ([=) I hope this makes sense :-) (Version 1.0b4)
DAVIDE RIVOLA Hi, thank you for the suggestion. Open SRT has a lot of nice features! Some are already planned for SubCleaner and other could be added later.
Please be patient, I'm doing this to learn Mac programming in my spare time. ;-) (Version 1.0b3)

WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS I'm not sure what features it needs, but the parameters mode of opensrt looks good. i have been unable to use this to clean srt files for a philips dvp 642. (they are unrecognized even after cleaning). it would be brilliant to have some os x software that actually fixes the problem. anyway thanks for the efforts. (Version 1.0b5)

DAVIDE RIVOLA Hi, I will look into what type of cleaning is needed by the philips dvp 642... (Version 1.0b5)
PIMMA Although SubCleaner is a beta, I think it worth a try. The application seems to be very stable (I never had a problem so far) and it is really fantastically simple to use. Finally I can enjoy my subtitled movies without the unpleasant formatting errors that sometimes occur. Thanks Davide to make this happens! :-) (Version 1.0b1)
