FORMICA  Perian is just terrific. I thank everyone who is involved with this effort for making it possible for my new 2.4 GHz MacBook and older Intel 2.16 GHz 20" iMac (both running 10.5.6 & maxed out on RAM) to play so very many video and audio filetypes seamlessly, and especially for keeping it free! It works great - keep up the good work.

I know this isn't Perian's fault, but the only movie-related problem I have had is the inability to set my Perian-enabled QuickTime Player as the default .flv player. .flv files will play in QT Player, but whenever I try to make it permanent (by doing a Get Info on an .flv file, setting QTP as the Open With app, and then clicking Change All...), it immediately reverts back to MPEG Streamclip as the default .flv player. I don't quite know why this happens because Perian does make QT capable of playing .flv files, so why should the OS resist making that the default?

However, I was able to set Movist as the default .flv player, and that actually works out better because Movist is so unbelievably customizable that I prefer to use it to play EVERYTHING. In fact, today I changed the default player for ALL movie filetypes to Movist because it's so superior to QT (and it too is FREE!).

Anyway, kudos to the Perian developers!

MARK_CAIRNS  AVCHD .mts files should be a matter of urgency as Perian's next codec to add. Lots of cameras now out with the format from Sony, Panny and Canon and it's a nightmare to work with for FCP 6.05

BEANG  i don't know why,

but ever since 1.1.2, Perian freezes up my Quick Look on 10.5.6.

and anything from MPEG-4 to H.264 takes AGES to load with Quicktime.

1.1.3 seems to be the same in this issue-

so, until i'm absolutely sure that this issue has been taken care of,

i'm gonna stick to 1.0. works like a charm.

FORMICA  I don't think your problem is caused by Perian because I have not had such problems and I have not heard anyone else complain of such problems. That leads me to believe that something else about your computer's setup is the source.

FOOTAGEHEAD  Tiger users/ iMac (10.4.11) beware !! Upgraded from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 and had iChat problems.

At first did not realize it was Perian, but noticed that although my iChat still connected for video chats, all I could see was me (not pleasant) and not the person I called. They could see

me and no problem with audio either. Found the answer in the Apple Support forum discussion moderated by Ralph Johns, an iChat wizard http://discussions.apple.com/profile.jspa?userID=208. Kudos to him.

Downgraded back to 1.1.2 and all back to normal.

DAVIDSAN  This update solved all the issues I had with 1.1.2 about High definition video. No more frames dropped!

However, I keep clicking on the Load External Subtitles to deactivate them, but when I reload the preferences pane is again checked. It seems like a little bug.

Any way, great job!

RORO01  Double clicking on the package doesn't update the Perian.component in /Library/QuickTime - it only updates the preference pane. iMac Intel 10.4.11

CHLOE  It *does* updates my previously installed Perian.component file in Library/Quicktime as well as the preference pane to the latest version.

No problem here. And I'm using OS X 10.4.11 too.
