MACTECHHEAD Stay far away from this scam artist of a developer. There is no big differences in version 1 and 2. To pay for a stability update is a pure scam and should have been offered for free to all his paying customers. The developer is rude, obnoxious, arrogant and offers little or not support when you have problems. His software is openly stealing code from open source projects and charging fools money for some eye candy that will eventually be disgusted with the developer as many have learned the hard way. And this time I'm not half asleep, so not accidental 5 star LOL (Version 2.0v77)

BHOFF I have to agree. I emailed for support and more recently to ask about upgrade pricing. Never got a response to either. And I agree - to charge people just to get a version that doesn't crash all the time is borderline criminal. (Version 2.0v77)

LOKHEED Let's start off with the good. It's sexy. It looks good and is quite easy to use. Mimicking the traditional 'iTunes' interface, it is very pretty. Let's move onto the bad. It crashes. A lot. Been a problem since it was released and nothing has been done about it. When you have a stack of torrents downloading from poorly seeded sources, and your program crashes, it can be maddening! Without stability improvements, this program seriously cripples itself due to its poor programming. It is also banned on nearly all private trackers. Anyone with access to these places will find that Xtorrent is completely useless. Works just fine on public trackers (like Pirate Bay). The lack of updates. This program went for almost a year without an update. That would be fine if there was nothing to update, but the crashes are well documented and ignored by the brash and arrogant developer (David Watanabe). So be prepared for little to no support when you shell out your hard earned cash. And lastly, the ugly. Paul Watanabe. This guy is infamous in the Mac developer community and with good reason. Let's take his current pricing structure. v1 adopters were promised "updates for life." Well, they got screwed. Paul released v2 and instead of honouring his commitments to the people that pay his bills, he forked the version, choosing to release a "crippled version" and a "pro version". The crippled version went to the public that either adopted the program from v1 or never paid for it. The pro version costs money. Take your chances, but when you deal with a jerk, eventually you will be screwed. If the built in search function or general look of the program is enough incentive to jump in the pool with the shark, then by all means, plop down your hard earned money. (Version 2.0v71)

PCHARLES67 I was able to use my V1 code with V2, so I am not sure what you mean. I was also unable to find anything about this guy on the web, except for reference to some political scientist. (Version 2.0v74)

MIBRILANE Paying for anything that allows you to get stuff that isn't free for free means you're paying the wrong person. (Version 2.0v66)

::MILE:: I really enjoyed using this app until last January or so I mentioned that it had been banned from many sites, due to the fact that it was using old, unsecure and unreliable Transmission code -- so I contacted the developer and he said it wasn't much of a deal, he just had to update the libraries etc. and then would post an update... Only he never did...!!! I haven't been able to use Xtorrent for over a year now and as it now turns out he doesn't even bother anymore, since he stopped development on it...!?! Before that I alwaays thought that the negative comments and reviews about hom were a bit over the top, but I can understand them now...! Just like he promised bloggers who would write about NewsFire a preview of the new version by the end of last year -- it never happened...! It's kind of sad though, I liked using Xtorrent, espcially for the included RSS reader...but just like so many others I will from now on stay away from any software Mr. Watanabe may publish...! PL_SVN Mr. Watanabe, once more, at his best: after charging an (optional) extra for *lifetime updates*, he found yet another way to tap his loyal customers for money: XTorrent 2 comes in a "regular" and a Pro version that we have to pay again for (plus, as always, an optional lifetime updates *extra*) Obviously no one can, strictly, call this a fraud but... you all know what I mean! :-( (Version 2.0v66)

ULI STIELIKE Well, XTorrent still works even if it has not seen an update in a very long time. I use it almost every day and the problems I experience are mostly fixed with quitting the application and starting it again. Sometimes it freezes after you click a download button and it takes some time te recover from that, but then it works again without quitting the app. It's a dissapointment that this application is not updated anymore. I have not seen a BT app arrive with the same features Xtorrent has. Because I really like the seach function (you can easily add you search engine or BT-site of your choice). This makes it a very user friendly program. I would like to see the search function be implemented in Transmission. I searched their forums but only saw one request for it. And a developer answered that is was a useless feature that will probably never be implemented in Transmission. I just don't get it. That guy probably never used the search function in XTorrent. Please developers of competing programs: Take a look at the search function in XTorrent and copy it bit by bit. Don't be too arrogant to add the only (but very) useful feature Xtorrent has into your own application. Don't dismiss it as useless. Seaching and downloading the XTorrent way is 100% Mac-like and no one has done it better to this day. Let me make this clear: I would not recommend this application at all. It's development status is unclear, each future Mac OS update can make the application unusable and from what I read there is obviously no support for paying customers. This is a potentially 5 star application (and some days it still is for me) but other days it can drive you nuts. 2 out of 5. (Version 1.1v53)

SCARY OUTFIT Been using Xtorrent for the last few weeks and am not having any issues. seems to DL fast, find lots of choices (not as much as other torrent apps) and easy to search and load intospecific directories (itunes, imovies etc..). The only thing i cant seem to do is, when a torrent has multiple files (say 100), selecting 30 or 40 without having to manually 'tick' them one by one. This is frustrating, and ive tried every key combination but still doesnt work. Xtorrent seems to do the DL job and is very easy to use.

GUNTIS I paid full price for Xtorrent 1.0, I also added family pack, and also lifetime upgrades option. Now when v. 2.0 is out I'm asked to pay full price again. No sir, this I won't do. It's called cheating your customers. (Version 2.0v79)

MUDFLAPPER Have you tried contacting the developer? I'm pretty sure he doesn't read reviews on MacUpdate anymore. Dangerous territory. ;) (Version 2.0v82)

::MILE:: If you have really purchased the lifetime option your old serial number/license code should work
! Just copy and paste it into the license field and you should be able to use the Pro version -- easy as pie
! (Version 2.0v82) | |

GUNTIS Thanks, it really worked! I didn't know that. There's no information about upgrade options on developer's web site. Only info about full prices. Sorry. (Version 2.0v82)

MUDFLAPPER Yes, I've actually had to contact him 2 or three times over the last few years regarding Xtorrent and Acquisition. The first 2 times I received a reply within a day or two. The third time took about a week. I have to say I was a little nervous that last time because of some things I read in these forums, but in the end, I haven't had any problems that weren't fixed in a timely manner. Glad you got the serial number issue worked out. (Version 2.0v82)

SQUIGLES Great, an update! Hijacked by the fact there is a limit put on the number of seeds you can download from ................. UNLESS YOU PAY TO UPGRADE TO PRO!!! This I find is totally unacceptable. (Version 2.0v73)
