DESCRIPTION

EyeTV EPG Proxy fills the need for EPG data for users in certain countries, and it's free.

Background: EyeTV is a DVR software for Mac OS X, with support for EPG (Electronic Programming Guide) in many countries. Unfortunately, EPG data is not available at all in some countries (Canada, for example), or it is available only via a paid subscription (tvtv for European countries, for example).

How does it work: Basically, it acts as a proxy between EyeTV and the real EPG data source (Zap2It or XMLTV). Traffic is redirected from EyeTV to your personnal web server, on which PHP scripts will answer with data that EyeTV can understand. More details can be found on the EEP official website.

EyeTV EPG Proxy is open source (under LGPL license).

SERVANTOFBOB  I bought a TvMax unit, and was about to return it to the vendor. I really couldn't find a solution to allow me to use my Mac to record programs as I used my PC prior to my conversion. Thank you for an awesome program.

    KIETZO  AWESOME SUPPORT!

This would not work straight away on my mac with a miglia and eyetv - developer was a total trooper, logged into my machine remotely and helped me fix the problem - love it!

    happy trails.

ETJ  Works great- very nice to have the schedule in EyeTV for Canada. Quite simple installation considering the hoops that the author had to work through.

GBOUDREAU  If your TV provider is supported by XMLTV, then yes, probably.

I know some Australian users of XMLTV have issues with Over the Air digital (DVB), but if you use standard cable or such, I don't think there will be any problem.

    MACKEY007  Woo Hoo! WoW!!

This is simply amazing and never thought I could ever use the EyeTV guide. EyeTV said one day they will have support for Canada... but would never commit to a timeframe. It appears that most TV service charges a premium for this ability if its a commercial ware company.

There some minor quirks in the documents that needs fixing.

    - Your referral url for installation steps need to be changed.

    - There a addition you need to add in the channels lineup for those who do not customize the channel list. Once the list is up for viewing you have to select each channel in the EPG Column to TitanTV otherwise eyeTV doesn't even know the channels exist. I figure that out after I read the alert error in eyeTV.

Great Job and a heartful thanks!

GBOUDREAU  Thank you for your feedback.

I'll be publishing a 0.9.1 version which fixes the URL in the ReadMe (and Installer) and the directory permission to make config.inc.php easier to edit.

I'll add an additional step in the EyeTV instructions about the channels, indeed.

    Thanks again,

    - Guillaume

GRAHAM JONES  Absolutely amazing!!! I never could have imagined that it could be so easy for us Canadians to have EPG support! Now I know what we've been missing all of this time.

The installation process is very simple, with step by step instructions laid out. It only took a couple of minutes, and now I have a perfectly working EPG!!!

Wonderful job Guillaume, and thank you for making this publicly available for free. No need to call it 0.9--- should be 1.0 in my books.

    Thanks,

    Graham Jones.
