DESCRIPTION

Virtual Dashboard... With the release of Apple Mac OS X 10.4, Apple released the Dashboard. The Dashboard allows you to use mini applications called widgets. These widgets allow you to see information such as the date and time, or the running value of stocks that the user can setup. They also can be games or just about anything that developers can come up with. The Dashboard makes it very handy to easily access these widgets and the type of data or information that the user wants to look at. There are literally thousands of these widgets that have been developed and can be downloaded from various sites.

The problem with the Dashboard is that the number of widgets that can viewed on the screen at one time is limited to the amount of viewable screen space that the user has. To solve this, Virtual Dashboard was created. With Virtual Dashboard, users can create widget sets that can be switched in and out either through a menu or keyboard shortcuts. This allows users to create different sets and add or remove the widgets that they want to see. Virtual Dashboard allows the user to create as many sets as they desire. Users could literally have access to hundreds, if not thousands of widgets right at their fingertips.

AZSTERLING  I've used this mini application the way it is intended and I haven't had problems. I too have replaced MultiDash and have bought it.  (Version 1.3.2)

VIRTUAL_DASHBOARD_SUPPORT  TELMAH was correct, my support email address was missing from the product web site, and also for some reason it was missing in the documentation (pdf). This has been fixed on the Web site, and this will be fixed in the document and re-released very soon. But as for the rest of his review, I take great exception to this. For one Virtual Dashboard was not made to function like the way they are trying to make it function. I don't know how there dashboard functions at all putting them in different folders and removing them from the Widgets folder. According to Apple the Dashboard should not be used like this. I have talked to Apple Engineers over a year ago about this, and they said it should not work. As for there apps reloading that just does not happen. What they where seeing was the Dock reloading when Virtual Dashboard was starting. This is so we can get info on the Widgets in the Dashboard layer. I do take responsibility that this bug occurred, and I will look into making this work somehow. But I don't have a lot of faith that I can make this work, as the Dashboard should not even work like this. So please give Virtual Dash board a chance. Thanks.  (Version 1.3.2)

TELMAH  I was really excited about this and prepared to pay had it worked.

I currently organize my widgets by putting them in folders (which removes them from the dashboard manager), but still lets them load perfectly, etc. I keep the widgets I always use and ones I need regularly for reference there, but all games in a folder and things I don't use often in a folder. Since a lot of the widgets that got in the way were ones that came in the system, I did the same thing under HD/Library too.

So, I was really excited about this. I opened it and this caused my dock to blink and all of the apps on my dashboard to reload (which is not good if any of those apps are holding information that isn't saved, or saveable) Since I didn't know this was going to happen I didn't get the opportunity to save anything I wanted to. I don't think it was, or if it was, the pdf didn't mention it. I didn't have any further problems, except that I couldn't create any sets, change my preferences or access anything.

I went to the website to contact the developer and the developer has left no contact information. If there's a problem or you want to review, you're referred here, or to a couple other sites. This is a problem on a number of levels. Anyone who has a problem or wants to leave a review or anything has to come elsewhere to and hope that the developer is paying attention. This also requires them to create an account at one of the sites.

The real problem is that if you buy the software you have no way to contact the developer for anything, for a refund, for whatever. If the serial number doesn't work, whatever. It's sending your money into thin air and hoping that everything goes right.  (Version 1.3.2)

SYZZYGY  Not wanting to give the developer an undeserved black eye, I'm updating my previous comment, below.

I've been in contact with him and found that my problem with Virtual Dashboard seems to be one relating to a unique conflict between a menu bar app that I have and Virtual Dashboard; he's gotten no other reports of problems nor can he duplicate my particular problem.

The chances of you experiencing the same issue are quite slim, so do give Virtual Dashboard a fair trial.  (Version 1.3)
