CRAGGLES  The old adage 'you get what you pay for' is usually correct. So when you come across a FREE app, you should normally be quite wary.

Not so in this case!!

I have tried many different backup/syncing apps to keep a usable backup (not an archived/incremental backup but something I can work on with my Laptop while my Desktop was otherwise busy) on my network drive of my work files and none matched the ease of use of SyncTwoFolders. Obviously, none matched it's price either!

I don't know how it can be given away for free and I initially thought that it it was an old app that was no longer being developed or supported. That was until I needed support and was instantly given it. Regular updates adding some great new features rivalling the most expensive options out there proved my initial scepticism wrong again - and I was glad to be proved wrong in this case!

We have total synchronisation, adding the target's files to the source folder or adding the source folder's files to the target. Automatic deletion of files based on their name or starting characters (which is ideal for not dumping multiple invisible files on the Mac onto a PC disk) and there's even a Batch option where you can carry out multiple syncs all at once.

As if that wasn't enough, in the current version (1.3.5b3) there's even a timer that you can set for the Batch syncing periodically without the need to manually fiddle anymore.

The only thing it's missing (which are really little things) is a progress bar to see how long it's going to take (although you do have the finder copy window for progress), Growl support and Sparkle (for automatic updating from within the app instead of downloading a new copy and then replacing it manually).

I love this app - mostly because the compromises you'd normally make in your expectations to use a free app don't apply here whatsoever! I'm sure I'm not the only person who'd gladly pay for this app if it weren't free.

Thank you Robisson!

STILL_SPARKLING  Very useful program that works exactly as advertised. I use it to keep my Documents folder and my Music folder in sync between my main computer and my external drives because those are the folders I save to most often. SyncTwoFolders works great when you don't want to do a full SuperDuper backup or copy things over manually.

Four stars because the French to English translation could be better, but the app itself is 5 stars.

TOM.25  Mark Allan help me at the beginning of SyncTwoFolders to localize it in English. But he has enough to do with ClamXav (that I localized in French when version I)and I don't want to ask him to update English localization.

If someone could spend a little time to update English localization (or any other language), fell free to send me an email forum the About SyncTwoFolders window.

ELEGRAPHY  I was looking for a simple folder synchronizer this afternoon, and this one showed up as a new update in today's MacUpdate. I immediately download it and fire up the app, it worked as advertised. Very useful if you look for a simple folder merger to sync two folders mixed with both new and old downloads.

PENGUIRL  Re IAMDORIAN: It's a legitimate question, the author has a PPC version that was not where it was indicated to be. You are awfully judgmental to suggest the poster work more to buy a new Mac when there are people who can barely keep a roof over their head or food on the table. Perhaps you should take time to assess the situation and think about the fact that not everyone's life is like yours before you jump on your high horse and put someone else down just for asking a simple question.

Judge not lest ye be judged.

PABLITO  Amazing piece of software. Very useful to sync since the pen-drive files to a complete home folder. I am glad it's free; the developer is a gentle and a very accessible person. I hope it keeps evolving .. Congrats.

IAMDORIAN  "Where's the PPC version?" What kind of comment is this? Here's a developer who is selfless enough spend his time writing and then constantly improving a very useful FREE software application, and you cannot understand why he does not continue a parallel development for an old hardware platform?

Just a suggestion, but perhaps you might spend YOUR "spare" time working to buy a new Mac, or provide the developer with yours services (for free), so that he has the "spare" time to re-compile this program for others.

A hearty thanks to the developer for this work. :::tipping my hat to you:::

MACMEND.COM  I am with you, because this user has not even read the rest of this thread or visited the developers webs site.

I say thanks to all those that develop good software and then offer it for free.

TWISTERMC  Wow, this was a pleasant surprise. It seems to work quite well! Only suggestion would be to have a progress bar so I can see how close to done it is.

MAARTEN CROONEN  Finally something to help me clean up my similar backup folders (with thousands of files) from the past (in which I sometimes accidentally stored newer files. On my powermac dual G4 it worked fine. The log is clear and to use the the option or command button to find the original file a great help. I would like more clarity about the special signs defining the transfer state in the log though, even the tooltip info is too "thin".

great, I finally got a job done which had been laying around for years.

KILLER KLOWN KAR  I downloaded this and will try it simply because I am French. I hope this is a suitable replacement for the told Connetix OS9 Speedy Copy or whatever it was called.

MISHA  I'd bet the developer is French, despite showing the english versions of the app... tampon=buffer in French, so not quite as bizarre.

TOM.25  Yes, you won, I'm French :-) , and proud least for 2 years but this is another problem.

I should have done a screencapture with my home folder but I forgot to change from my tests folders.
